For those of you that live in Mobile Homes, are the tires and axles removed?

How many would loan a museum their valuable to display? Could be anything... Could be any item.. a ring, firearm, car, rug, document.. No money paid for the display.. would you do it?

Are they going to make a big profit of it?

If it was non-profit, or similar historical and I could help I probably would. If someone was trying to make $$$ off of me for free, doubt it.

How about you loan yourself to the Quisling Museum, or the Torry Museum?

It would make a fantastic 'new american' display.

I was thinking how they protected it from damage.Usually museums do a 3-6 or a year agreement.

Anyway, back to the OP: Yes. And I have. I gave our local museum my great-grandfather's stump vise to put in their Blacksmith's Shop. It actually gets used once a year and many people get to see and (I'm assuming) enjoy it.

That was over 20 years ago. I never signed an agreement. Hell I'm just happy it gets used once in a while.

I don't know of anyone who would. That would take a truly special individual. The type of really wealthy person who still has a heart and would allow the commoners to view one of his glorious possessions. I think I can speak for all when I say, I would truly admire the kind of wonderful person who would even contemplate such a selfless act.

we have some cut glass on display at a local museum...some of it is worth a moderate amount of money...we just didn't trumpet it...and we put it in the name of the deceased relativve who was nice enough to remember us in the will.

Well, I signed an agreement that the Museum can use pictures, and promote to use MY ITEM AS THEY SEE FIT.... In other words to promote it so folks will come look, pay the admission for the Museum. I get nothing out of it. Got it.

Anyone that yearns to see a late model Chevrolet can sit by the side of any road for fifteen minutes.

Do you really have so little class as to believe you are in possession of a rare work of art.

    yes, same deal here.

But I don't post about it every day here @ GB Forums.

And cut glass is a art form. Made by hand at the turn of the 20th Century.

Not a mass produced car with some special stickers on it.

    To show old stuff

But very few museums actually OWN the items on display.

On a side note, some high end insurance companies will offer a discounted premium if the item is in a museum as the security is usually VERY high.

I would do it if I had anything worth displaying. I know that somebody in my family loaned the journal of my great great great great grandfather to the church archives with the stipulation that ANYBODY from my family could have access it anytime that they wanted. After a few people were denied access due to damage concerns, it was taken back, photographed, transcribed, and published, then placed in permanent archival storage.

I have given some of my great great grandfathers possessions to a local museum and they were very grateful to receive them, and I was very pleased to provide them. My great great grandmothers wedding dress is on display as well in the Vancouver museum.

To be totally honest I would share something of curio or value if I had something unique enough to better the public in some way.
My older brother has a display in a museum, that is actually rather unique.

His unit along with a summary of their actions is on display at the Airborne and Special Operations museum outside of Ft. Bragg, NC explaining the special operations actions after 9/11.

Not a lot of living guys talked about in that museum, but I must concede the Army set it up without their consent. With the exception of the 1 time we visited with him, there has never been any mention of it by him or his Army friends from that time.

It was just part of the job, and just happened to end up a museum exhibit.

Its rewarding in the sense my grandfathers otherwise "neglected stuff" has a useful purpose, and other people get some kind of enjoyment from them. That makes it good for me.

As a former museum curator I know that the museum would appreciate having an item on temporary loan and I would gladly lend it to them (and lend is the proper verb form for loan).

It would depend on the museum, what type of museum. The biggest question, is the museum making a profit from my item, and the other donated items being there. If they are pocketing the money for for themselves, and not the betterment of the museum (fixed non mobile) or for charity then I would not offer more than the requested single item if at all dependent on the value of the item. If, it's those junky * camaro's or corvette's of yours. Send them all !! [:D][:D]

I think I would if these two things happen.....

1....It was safe and and secured with replacement value insurance that was provided by the event or facility that had my item.

2....I wasn't put out in any way by them borrowing my item. (I'm too busy to stop everything and take my stuff to someone to borrow.)

    Select,

Why don't YOU simply build a museum on your property?

You'd have a place to house your cars, you could charge admission, or not, and I am certain folks would be beating down the doors to get in and have a chance to drool or shoot their wad over the opportunity to view your cars.

How big would the doors need to be in order to drive your cars into the place?

I have a Civil War frock coat( 1st Lt Union ) that i have on loan to a Museum, they take good care of it and insure too plus people get to see a original piece of a Civil War uniform. The Museum owns most of the items thru donations and some have been very nice donations, whole gun collections, one had several mint trapdoors and a mint Sharps Carbine. Some people want others to enjoy their collections also. Thanks to all that do.
