Several years ago, I visited the SHOT Show when it was in Dallas. (Dallas!!!! You hear that? When is it coming back to Dallas?)I stopped by the Gerber booth and met Col. Rex Applegate, now departed. He was quite proud of the then-new Applegate Combat Folder and showed it to me.I liked the knife a lot, but said it needed a pocket clip. Applegate said it was too large a knife for a pocket, so it is supplied with a nylon sheath for belt carry. I slipped the knife into my pocket and then agreed that it was rather large for pocket carry.I suggested to Applegate that perhaps the knife could be made about 2/3 that size and a pocket clip added. The next year, I saw that Gerber added the Covert Folder to the line, the very knife that I had suggested, and I bought one as soon as I could. I carry it daily and it is a gem.I am pretty sure that I am not the only one that suggested the Covert, but you never know.I still would like to see the SHOT Show return to Dallas.

I have been to every SHOT Show, and the NSGA shows before that. As I recall, the last Dallas show was highly criticized by both exhibitors and attendees. I seem to recall the facility was laid out in a fashion that made finding things very difficult. The housing was also lacking, and transportation was a problem. I think there was some controversy about the unions controlling who could carry boxes, and who could set up, etc.. I do not believe the show is scheduled again for Dallas. Go to the 2002 show in Las Vegas. There is no cheaper place to attend a show than Las Vegas. In my opinion, it is the best facility and the related matters are always first rate.

Even at 2/3 thirds size, wouldn't this knife be considered illegal if carried in your pocket?I almost purchased a full size one, but did'nt for that same reason, lack of clip.

The Covert is not illegal in Texas. It would have to have at least a 5 1/2" blade to be illegal, or be sharpened on both edges. The only reason I went to the SHOT Show is that it WAS in Dallas. Dallas is an hour away from me. I don't want to attend bad enough to go to Las Vegas.

If they decide to throw it in Dallas again, fine. But Dave ain't going to Las Vegas unless someone else is footing the bill. The SHOT Show used to move around, so I seem to remember. Dallas, New Orleans, Atlanta, Las Vegas, maybe others. It seems the past several years it has stuck with Las Vegas. Probably lots of participants like Las Vegas. Maybe there is a good facility there.Much as I would enjoy meeting some more of the GB users, I will have to sit this one out. I am an unabashed homebody.
