Shot shotThe producers of Winchester ammunition have recalled one lot of Super-X Drylock #2, 12-gauge, 13/8-ounce, 3-inch steel shot. If you recently bought this type of steel shot, check for this number on the tuck flap: 49X3SG29. This defective lot "may contain incorrect propellant, which may cause firearm damage and subject the shooter or bystanders to a risk of personal injury when fired," the company announced. If you have shot shells with this lot number, call Winchester toll-free at (866) 423-5224

I had a bunch of bad Winchester 12 gauge shells that were not recalled. They were the Low Recoil 00 Buck loads for law enforcement. I bought a bunch and it was in service for about 2 years, but rotated out and replaced with new ammo every year. When shooting up some of the old ammo in shotgun qualification, I found that some had a weak report and the shot would not make it the 20 yards to the target. NO KIDDING! The shot just fell on the ground about 10 yards out.I did my own recall, and got ALL of the Winchester ammo out of guns and cars and briefcases, and off of tactical vests, and replaced it with Federal ammo.I then shot up the old ammo and found over half to be squib loads.I called the distributor from whom I had bought it, and he said, "Yeah, we've been hearing some reports like yours, but so far nothing from Winchester."My guess is that this being the company's first attempt at making a low recoiling load, maybe the powder they used was experimental, and lost its potency after a while.
