Mechanical Types...A Question

Where is the switch in the door that turns the interior light on and off?

It used to be a spring loaded switch in the door jamb, but I can't find it anymore.

Dawnie has a 2001 Ford Taurus. Sometimes, the warning light on the dash comes on to indicate a door is ajar. It doesn't indicate which door, so we open and close all four. Sometimes the light goes out, and sometimes it doesn't.

I figure a switch needs to be tweaked or lubed, but I have no clue where it is.

Looks like the old trusty switch at the door hinge pillar wasn't fancy enough. Here is what I found:

The door jam switches are built into the door latches on that car. They have a history of having sticking problems. here's a procedure that usually works very well.

Get a can of spray lube like WD40 or something like it and has a straw on the nozzle. Spray it generously up into the latch mechanism. Now open and close the door numerous times to work it in. Repeat this process several times. Since you don't really know which door is causing the problem, you should do all of them. It's usually caused by the most frequently used door but it's not guaranteed to be that one.
It's too late for me, save yourself.

We had those issues on a 98 Windstar. Once we got to 18 mph, the light would go out. I went to the dealership and asked what to do. They told me exactly what cbxjeff said. I'd do that, it would work for a little while. It had that massive sliding side door. Those dome lights have a switch on the dash. We just used that.

One of my engineers slammed me with that site a few weeks ago. It's tough love. [:)] After about 10 years I have finally trained my Dad to check Snopes first to make sure that the story is not a complete scam (I do not trust them 100% but it is a good start) and also to check Google for what he is looking for. Now instead of just asking for the answer he says I searched for "X" and did not find what I was looking for. Since I deal a LOT with optimizing the system for the google search engine, asking it the right question has a LOT to do with getting a good answer. So it turns into a OK, Pop this is how the search engine "thinks", instead of phrasing the question like that, ask it this and put quotes here and here and lets see what we find. He does a lot of genealogy research so his searches can be a little more than esoteric sometimes. My Mom on the other hand still sends me EVERY BS email and joke that she gets forwarded. (She is 20 years behind Dad on using a computer/tablet so this may take a while.) Honestly, some of these jokes my Grandfather sent to me as faxes back in the 80s....
