PAYPAL......mostly sucks but READ!

I use Paypal for nearly all of my online purchases. I realize they are very anti-gun which sucks. However, for those who have Paypal accounts, I ask that you please consider posting that you will accept 'alternative electronic payments' in your listing. Paypal doesn't actually have to know what the payment is for, as I've sold and purchased thousands of items with Paypal for nearly 10 years. As a Paypal user I don't mind (and in fact expect) paying a 3% 'credit card' charge. PLEASE consider this. I am now particularly hunting out people who list Paypal or 'alternative electronic payments' as a method of payment. Thanks for your time.

Not at all. I am actually a seller on eBay! I guess I shouldn't use my real name in case somebody is looking on here.

Kind of a strange post for a newbie on here. We don't like paypal because they don't like us. Why should we give them money(fees)if they tell us they don't want our business, and will take action if we use them?

When ebay stopped allowing gun stuff, I quit ebaying. They won't get any more money from me, and neither will paypal.

Believe me I understand the frustrations, I really do - both as a seller and as a buyer. For me it is just more convenient to use as I keep a small nest egg in there for online purchases ONLY. I actually didn't know that eBay/Paypal were anti-gun until I started getting more involved into firearms here lately. I guess I like using it as a seller because so many people use it as buyers too.

I'm not really concerned about who ebay likes, it pretty much pays my mortgage and makes sure my wife doesn't need a real job. I buy and sell plenty of gun stuff on ebay, the auction just needs to be worded correctly and it's smooth sailing.

Sooner or later, if you keep dealing with Paypal, you'll get stuck. You're right, Paypal doesn't have to know what the payment is for. You can be very careful not to let them know. All it takes, however, is for ONE buyer to slip up and put out one wrong piece of info. and that's it.
I had paypal "freeze my account" for more than two MONTHS, during which time they held more than $400 of my money, and also froze the account of the seller. This was all over a COMPOUND BOW! I got my money back, with a "STERN WARNING" that this type of transaction "..would NOT be tolerated". I IMMEDIATELY tried to cancel my account with Paypal, at which time they told me I was "not allowed to quit..."! Long story short, They kept my account open AGAINST my will for 6 more weeks! They said to ensure I had no unresolved transactions. I next decided to severe ties with their parent company, Ebay. That was MUCH worse. Ebay kept my account open AGAINST MY WILL, for 18 MONTHS and only closed it when threatened with litigation. I will NEVER deal with Paypal OR Ebay again, PERIOD!
If you want safeguards for your online transactions, pay with a credit card. They offer better protection than Paypal.

I do NOT use PayPal because of their anitgun stance. Will not use them until they change their ways.

    End of discussion.

I will continue to use 'alternative electronic payments' and hope others will too. But I doubt that this is the "End of discussion."

Paypal is anti-gun, but it is also $$$$$ for sellers.

pay pal keeps a data base too and would be the first ones to join it if the government decides to have an internet sales tax. Best to avoid them.

at least if I pay with a cc you get some airline miles back for your 3% and you know,,, that pisses me off too! when I had a cc machine available I never charged people to use it, I figured that would be the same as going to lowes or a local gun store and having them ring up my purchase then ad 3% on top for using the cc it never happens! so online dealers who do it are thieves if you ask me! they are just looking for another way to put money in their pocket. why on earth qould you do that to someone who just paid more for your item than anyone else would by winning an auction?
ckuf people who charge CC fees

Far as I am concerned it is. I don't do Paypal or Fleabay. Paypal is dying as a payment method at Gunbroker, so I reckon you are wasting your time and effort.

Paypal and ebay both suck! I quit useing both when they imposed their morals about how I was allowed to word auctions I was paying them for and could only let people pay for certain items they deemed safe.

I used to sell reloading brass on E-bay. Did well. Took pay pal. Then....it happened to me. I specifically stated "No International Buyser". Some countries count empty reloading brass as "banned items". ANyhow, I sold some 8mm Mauser cases. A guy in some turd world former Soviet Rupublic bid on it, and won. He paid a HUGE friggin price for it. I did not know he was a foreigner until he sent me his mailing address. I bantered back and forth, and explained it would cost almost $40.00 to send $40.00 worth of brass. He siad no problem, and I agreed to send it. He paid with pay pal, but I explained that I could not guarantee it would get to him.

So, I proceeded to head to the local main post office and explained to the postal chick what I needed. She finally found me a form....In Cyrillic!!! I do not speak, read or write Cyrillic. I finally found a lady that filled the forms out for me...cost me $10.00. I shipped it. 2 weeks later I start getting e-mails and finally a letter in the same goofy language. The translator read it for me..for free...and said it was seized by customs because the recipient was a known criminal. Great!! Now I am waiting for a visit from the DEA or the BATFE.

The guy files a complaint with Pay Pal. I explain the situation, send them copies of the e-mails, and they promply "seize" my account with over $6,000 in it, and about 50 orders pending from folks that already paid for their stuff and the shipping. Had to fork out $500.00 from the family budget.

Took 180 days for me to get the money released, they refused to speak with me on the phone and basically said I was under investigation. Shortly after that I get a snotty e-mail about the incident at some shooting somewhere (VA Tech I believe) caused e-bay to disallow any reloading stuff on e-bay. After 4 years and over $3000 in fees to these idiots.

If you yous pay pal...you are an idiot. If you give these crooks access to your bank account, I have some ocean front property in West Texas to sell you.

My latest Pay-Pal story, ordered a ball-mill, never got it, pay-pal says, yep your right you never got the part and we should give you your money back, but we were not able to recover any money, so we do not have you any.

Thankfully I paid using credit card, I called them and disputed the paypal charge. E-Bay and pay-pal suck big ol green donkey kongs[:(!] But I am still using both of them.

I will take the last word here.

If you patronize Fleabay or Paypal, and you get screwed over, you had it coming!

A few years ago I sold an AR-15 to a fellow in Texas. I sent him my usual email thanking him for his purchase and that I would accept either a bank check or a USPS money order as payment.

He then proceeded to tell me that he would be sending me payment via paypig and when I told him that was not an option he had the nerve to tell me that he buys and sells guns all day long using paypig.

Needless to say, the transaction went through but it was not pleasant in the least. I don't mind that God created so many bozos; I do mind that they end up buying my listings and wasting my time...

On a similar note, I had an a_________e send me paypig for a gun part despite my directions to the contrary. Thanks to this bozo, Paypig came down hard on me and made me erase all references to paypal in my Gunbroker (TM) listings. And NO, I did not have the "paypal" box checked on that listing....
