Reserve Price

Why do sellers have a reserve price as the minimum they will take for a certian item, yet start their bidding price at a much lower price? If the starting bid is at a much lower price, then the first people that bid will not be the winners of that item. In my opinion, reserve price should be done away with and starting bid should be the minimum that a seller will accept for a particular item.

I hope a lot of sellers read this comment, I am a frequent buyer/seller/bidder on GunBroker and if you can't tell me what the reserve is on your item I'm not going to waste my time playing hide and seek on auction price.Just put on the lowest price you will consider or a by it now price so we some idea what we're bidding on.

I'm sure this has been covered before but can someone explain to me the reason for a reserve price. All it does is piss me off trying to guess what the starting bid is. Just set the starting bid at the least price you will take and be done with it.

I never have them on my auctions. I start the bidding at the lowest price I am willing to accept. Like you, I don't expect my customers to "guess".

But it works for many sellers...
