Organ donation...what's the best parts you have?

Got my drivers license renewed and they ask about being an organ donor.....started thinking about what were the best parts I had to offer (from the waist up of course). I've been pretty hard on the "Ol' body", not sure there is anything worth using...eye's are still 20/20, no heart problems, some hearing loss, got more "stomach" than I need, and nine fingers....

The eyes are still useable, although not 20/20 any longer, got a good heart, and I haven't been using my brain lately, so that should still be okay!

After more then 20 years with diabetes, I think all my parts are just about shot. Including those below the waist.

Figure my eyes might help someone *completely* blind and if any other parts will help someone, they are welcome to them. Heck, I give blood every chance I can, this is just a one-time continuation of the same program.

The "eye's" have it. I recon that is about all there is that would do anyone any good at this point.

If I knew then, what I know now.

......My mom is a nurse and she was telling me that if you are an organ donor the doctors are more likely to let you die if you are in need of expensive medical care.

Fine by me. I've lived a full life, been everywhere I've ever wanted to go, and done everything I've ever wanted to do. The kids are grown and out of the house, my job there is done.

I would go with no regrets, if I knew that another person's life would be enriched, using parts that I no longer had any use for.

On me, it would have to be the ear hair.

Rembrandt,I believe you have 9 and 2/3 fingers.

Speaking of fingers, andI would not want it to seem as
though I`m bragging, but the ol` trigger finger would be
a pretty good windfallfor some deserving soul.

I sure am glad to hear all you are willing donors. Since the surgery, I have been practicing head shots every chance I get - could use a new heart

varmint hunter--between your ear hair and the hair in my nose that grows like wildfire, we could probably start our own hair transplant clinic

My lungs and heart have taken a beating from 8 years of smoking. Those are no good. I'm not much of a drinker. I may have a beer twice a month or so. My liver should be fine and my kidneys seem okay. The vision is still 20/20.

At 51, not much worth giving away, but I signed up as an organ donor. They can take what they want.

I have been checked as an organ donor for some years on my DL. Recently learned that harvested organs are more likely to be sold to a commercial tissue/organ bank than to be transplanted into someone whose life depends upon it. I am still thinking about removing the donor check the next time I renew. I am not really sold on other people making a bunch of money on my old parts. I would rather just give them to Varmit for fish bait. Skin, for example is more likely to be sold to a cosmetic surgeon for face lifts and johnson enlargements than used on a burn victim because of the cost.

Would be nice if we could check "donor" for transplant, and not for experimentation or other such uses.

    N4thethrill -

Minor nit to pick. I never said that I have been everywhere and done everything.

What I said was, I have been everywhere that I have ever wanted to go and done everything I've ever wanted to do. Quite a difference, actually.

I read something awhile ago that one of the major med college was willing to pay $10,000 for rights to your body after you were done with it. I belive it was Yale, but they tattooed "Property of Yale"
on the bottom of your foot and of coarse a bunch of paper work. Didn't look into at the time, so may have been a urban myth.
$10k would be very tempting for getting a tattoo, i could get all those toys ive been wanting..

I figure they can take and use anything they want. The warranty has expired on most of me, so there is a no return policy in place.

Not many good parts left. Eyes goin' buggy, can't hear, BUT .. I do have a variety of spare hips and sockets Ive collected. Been through 3 total hips and have kept all pieces. So, if anyone is thinking about hip replacement maybe I can help ya out. Got more stainless steel in me than a new car has, probably more than a Ruger Super Redhawk in .480 Ruger ...

Once I am finished with them, whoever needs any of my parts is welcome to them. It will be up to someone else to decide what is salvagable.

Not meaning to be selfish, but I hope I have the chance to wear everything plumb out.
