FAL Assembly

Recently I have seen fairly attractive prices on FAL receivers and parts kits.

How much trouble is it to assemble one? Any special tools required?

Looks like a neat project, but I await answers from those who know.

You will need access to a lathe and a substantial vise, the lathe for turning the shoulder of the Bbl. for indexing, the vise for holding the receiver as the barrel is screwed in. You will need some form of instruction/parts Assy. directions. You will need Head Space gages, and possibly extra frame blocks that the bolt head spaces on. A reamer MAY be required also.

You can get all the pieces for under $300. Sounds like a lot of specialized tooling is required. Probably not worth it unless I were going to build a lot of rifles.

    Thanks.

Buy one of the cheaper Fals (SOG, etc.) to try out. If you like it, save up for the DSA version. It is almost as cheap to buy an assembled gun as it is to build from a kit and much less hassle. If you can't get a good deal locally, email me at cedarnut@aol.com
    and we can talk.

Oh, I can get a good deal, I guess.

Also, a friend called who has the vise, wrench, gauges, etc. to put the thing together.

Now I am trying to decide if it is worth it to save about $80.
