You say the P226 in 357 or 40 is a larger platform than the 9mm, therefore, is it possible for me to buy a 9mm barrel and install it in the larger frame or is this conversion non-existent?

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

You would need the entire top end, not just a barrel. The extractor is in the wrong place.

When I said the .40 works in a 9mm platform, I mean that it is short enough to work in popular pistol frame sizes for the 9mm already in use. A .40 caliber SIG 226 is exactly the same size as a 9mm SIG 226.

The 10mm, which is where the .40 got started, is too long to use in a 9mm frame. It has to use a .45 size frame.

Had the .40 not come along when it did, I think the .41 Action Express would have taken hold in the market. I still think the .41 AE is a heck of an idea. It is about the same size as a .40 Smith & Wesson, and has about the same ballistics. Difference is, the case rim is rebated, that is the rim is actually smaller than the diameter of the case. The rim is the same size as a 9mm. It was possible to convert a 9mm pistol to .41 AE by dropping in a barrel and a magazine, and in some cases a recoil spring.

But, that sells parts. It does not sell guns. So the .40 got a big push, it caught on, and the .41 AE is history.

I take it that in your opinion, it would just be easier to pick up another pistol instead of buying slides, barrels, guide rods, etc?

    Thanks for the help.

Yes. By the time you bought the parts, you could have bought a whole gun.
