I have recently purchased a pre-agreement S&W 686 in near-mint condition with a 6" barrel in stainless steel. It's a pretty sweet .357 and I want to know what the best red-dot scope to mount on it. The dealer shoots competitively (very well mind you) at a local club and he touts the Tasco Pro Point. Is this wise advice? If I am looking at using it for hunting and being able to hit an 18" gong at 100 yards (SOMEDAY) which one should I buy? I've also found some good deals on a Leupold/Gilmore.What is your advice?

I use a Taco pro point on my 1911A1 and have had great luck with it. I am thinking about also trying the Acog system on my AR 15.

Although I have 2 BSA red dots, you cant go wrong with a Leupold either!I have a 40mm BSA on my Bushmaster M-17 and can hit a 12" gong at 300yds all day long. I have a 30mm on my SW-5 (HK94 clone) and can hit the 6" gong at 50 yards (off hand - no sling) with ease ... weather the Leupold is worth the difference in price, I dont know! All I can say is I'm happy with my $40 BSA's.By the way, I saw in ShotGun News that Midway is giving away a free 30mm BSA red dot with the purchase of a 8-32X44 Platinum BSA Scope for $147.99 ... I need to get my order in before their gone!
