What ever you do DON'T BUY A SPRINGFIELD SCOPE!!!

Looks like I'll be sending my 2nd Generation 4-14X56 in AGAINfor not holding zero, the elevation turret scale is loose (lastime the elevation HOUSING was loose) ... and now a new problem, the internal bubble level isn't plumb with the cross-hairs ... I kept thinking it looked canted, so I took my 24" level out to the range, marked a straight level line on the target board at 100 yards, lined up the horizontal cross-hair and it was off by 3/4 of the bubble. POS

Hey Kimber, too bad Kimber doesn't make scopes, I bet they could make them better than springfield too. "Leopold" my prefered optics, and a world class service department as well. A goofy friend of mine laid his rifle against the side of his truck while taking a wiz and got back in and drove about 30 feet before he realized he had forgot his rifle. When he went back to get it, it was smashed down in the mud with a broken stock. Apparently as he drove off it had fallen right into the path of the rear tires and he drove over it. The scope survived with some scuffs and scratches but began to fog up inside the tube chamber and was pretty useless. He sent it back to leopold and they fixed it for free. All it cost him was shipping charges. If he wouldn't have had another one of my friends with him he would have never told anyone about the incident but there was a witness so we constantly hurrassss him about his follie.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

    Selling NF for 5+ years.
Many hunters use the 3.5-15x50. 56mm is available but recommend it for applications for lots of low light hunting, and or that special once in a lifetime hunt were equiptment will make or break. Light transmission, AND resolution, especially resolution is so good that a NF 50mm will outperform most every 56mm UHP scope.
Email me for info & pricing.

Thats what burns me the most ... for what a Springfield scope costs, I could have easily bought a Leupold, but was caught up in the gadgets like the range finding reticle and bubble level hind-sight is 20-20 ... if I only knew then what I know now ...

The only CON to a NF is the price. They are however, superb scopes. Ultra clear, and very recoil proof.

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

G36 ... $1,100 for a used NF? Heck I need a dozen at that price! (HA!) As for the lifetime warrenty, so does Leupold, Tasco, BSA and about everyother scope maker ... even my POS Springfield has lifetime warrenty.

On a serious note, are they really worth that kind of money, or can they only get that price from the US Government?

KimberKid, last I heard, (a year or so ago) any dealer of Nightforce products was forbidden to drop the price of their products. The suggested retail was all that was acceptable. I know that some of the dealers have dropped the prices by maybe $100-$150 under SRP, but that is all I have found. $1250-$1500 depending on the model.

I am looking at the 12-42x56 with the illuminated recticle. I would like that for a long distance gun I have and in the future,.......pray pray pray,.........a Barrett M82. Now that's a nice combo. I am still waiting on that lottery winning theory of mine to pan out though. HAHA

    Just my thoughts on warranty.....

A new Hundai will get you a limited 10 year, or 100,000 mile warranty.
A new Mercedes, BMW, Accura, Lexus, Jaguar won't.

Warranty isn't a true measure of quality, or reliability.

Night Force has a Lifetime Warranty. The rest are out of it's league.
But they are heavier, so it a Schmidt & Bender, and they do cost more, so does a good tire, and brakes,

    True story.
Three guys at house & field. looking through a Leupold 6.5-20, Swaroski 6-24, and a NH 5.5-22.
Lazer ranged a "target" at 410 yds. NF was 400.
Set all scopes at 20X, and Range Focus (objective) at 400 yds.

Leupold> looked at target( boy on bicycle) saw his face just as clear as if we were standing 10 feet apart.
Swaroski> saw red spots on the same face.
NF>>> saw the pimples in the red spots.

Those three guys have now bought 6 NF's. So far.

    There is a difference.

    Happy Bullet Holes!

I have owned the 1st. and 2nd generation scope with no problems, shooting 1000 yds for the last 6 years. They have been mounted on a 300 mag, 7stw and 308. I know of people that have problems if the mounts are not level. There is no guarantee that the mount holes are drilled correctly, especially on factory receivers. This leads to problems because of the recoil because the tube is twisted. Even .002 is enough to cause problems.
    Thanks and good luck

I'm glad someone has had good luck with them, I have not ... that seems to go for Springfield products in general: 1911 type Pistols, M1A Rifles and their Scopes ... I've had bad experiences with all of them. I've had several M1A's, the last one (a standard model preban I picked up cheap because the previous owner was disgusted with it) I ended up finally sending to Krieger and told them to make it shoot. They replaced the barrel, gas system and it was acceptable. Later when Fajen was clearing house I picked up a type 3 NM laminated stock, had the receiver double lugged and bedded to it ... now it shoots the way I've always thought it should ... sub-MOA.

I'll give Springfield credit, they have always gotten my 2nd gen scope back to me in 2-3 weeks ... after a fiasco I had with them over a pistol, I was impressed.
