They made a mistake sending my numbers back to the bank. As soon as I get this mess straigtened out I'm cancelling my accout! Money Orders and Cashiers Checks always work!! I think about as much of Pay-Pal as I do Dish Network and Charlie can stick the dish you know where!!!

I've never used PayPal, but I've read enough stories to know I don't want to!

Why don't you like dish network? I am just curious, as we have never had any problems.

I think Paypal is almost as great as ebay. Sure wish I had thought of either one. Dish network is also tops on my list. ENRON, now that's another story.

I've had no problem with them yet and they have helped me make a lot of money. I also like being able to pay some one instantly. Now, all that said, I can't get their site up this morning. Hum, I wonder......Never mind, it's working now. Whew!!!![This message has been edited by Pelican (edited 01-17-2002).]

We do not use PayPal any longer due to some major problems we had with them. But don't take our word for it, read this: http://www.ygoodman.com/payments.html

PayPal, like many other services, started on the Internet free for everybody. When they started charging sellers who were used to not having PayPal get a cut, it hit the fan. Many dropped PayPal and encourage buyers to use other services -- which may, or may not, charge the buyer. As an occasional collector (well, not so occasional, I've racked up 174 positive feedbacks over on eBay) I like PayPal because the seller can ship instantly and the service is still free for buyers. For a brief moment I signed up with another service (X-com?) but when I found out they wanted to open a new checking account for me and be my bank, I cancelled immediately. Then PayPal merged with "X-com" or whatever they were called. I held my breath, but the nature of my PayPal service seems to remain unchanged. Free for buyers, cheap for sellers. Most sellers seem to have gotten used to the relatively low cost of PayPal and simply factor it into their minimum opening bid (no doubt). Just as I do the cost of shipping I'll have to pay to get my item from the seller. I have never had a probelm with PayPal personally, so I can't comment on any current issue of problems with PayPal. As far as I know, they have always worked perfectly at debiting, crediting, and notifying me with regard to every transaction I've made on eBay since 199-something.

I should point out a couple more things. In the first place, I have not signed up with PayPal for something they euphemistically call "Verification" because when you read the fine print it has aspects which are unfavorable to buyers. As long as I have a 174 positive rating and, far more importantly, a 0 negative rating, I don't feel paying the "price" of verification is worth it. It's an invasion, in my view.Secondly, the page referred to in the above link from Admin seems awfully biased toward the needs of sellers. PayPal is not exactly trashed over there; the page simply recommends the use of caution. That to me goes without saying. Direct marketers are the most likely sellers to get in trouble because, unlike collectors (hey, it's an AUCTION site, dummy) they tend to aspire to the crazy notion of acting like big businesses -- which always seems to mean the loss of individual care and interaction. While other recommended services like Citibank's C2it may currently be free, they are NOT likely to remain so, for buyers OR sellers. If experience proves anything, it proves that somebody like Citibank will inevitably turn their service into a "financial product." If they asked me, I would remind them that the Internet was supposed to be the great enabler for all Americans, high and low, and was supposed to be a superhighway -- not a toll road. If C2it wants to compete with PayPal for long, they are going to have to show even more restraint than PayPal has done when it comes to the TEMPTATION to BECOME GREEDY. Otherwise, all the tricks in the book won't work, because buyers drive the market and on sites like eBay, they always will. To paraphrase Yogi Berra, "If people won't sign up for Xcom, I can't stop 'em." Have I made myself clear?

PayPal provides a service, just a GunBroker does. If you receive a service you pay for it. True, a lot of people got upset when PayPal started charging for their service. In my personal opinion, the people that complained about having to pay for a service know very little about operating a business.I am PayPal verified and have 526 positives on ebay with 0 negatives. Just became verified at paypal. Scares me to give them access to my checking account. Has anyone heard of any fraud or hacking into accounts?

Don't believe you will have any problem. I know of no one that has.
