I very rarely search through the items for sale on the GB site. I guess there is just not anything I am really lookin' for.Tonite I decided to browse a bit. I am beginning to understand why some folks post complaints about the way some auctions are run.I picked three auctions at random for a small semi auto 25 cal pistol. The first was being sold at a reserve. In the picture you could see what appeared to be rust in the muzzle. What distressed me about this auction was that the seller wants $20 shipping and "handling". Most any little 25 can be shipped anywhere in the US via USPS Priority with delivery confirmation and ins for about 8 bucks 10 tops. The second was also being sold with reserve and in the auction header it states that the buyers pays a fixed shipping charge. However, the seller did not mention the amount of this charge in the auction. Could we be in for a 'big' surprise? The last one was also a reserve but it had a "buy it now" of $109.95 + 14.95 shipping. This is for a used gun that wholesaled new for less than 40 bucks. The ad states the gun was discontinued in 1998. Reckon it suddenly became a collectors item? NOT!!!At any rate, it's been a while since I ticked anybody off so I just thought I'd throw this out. 'sides, I was amazed.

Well Pelican, you raise a good point. It's quite a bit like a TV remote control where you just "switch" to the next auction or wait for something better to come up. Then again, I usually do a lot of asking and a lot of searching through auction sites and gun stores before I make a final decision on a prospective purchase anyways. I am currently weighing about five different options for my upcoming tax return. With regards to the shipping and "handling" fee, I can see this as being justified in certain circumstances. I work from 8am - 9pm Mon-Fri and from 9am - 6pm on Sat generally speaking. This precludes a stop at UPS and I'd never arrange a pickup from the driver because he is a loudmouth that knows my father. I'm not hiding anything from my father but I am discreet when it comes to my firearms. Call me paranoid. This leaves me with FedEX which requires me to ship overnight. The last pistol that I sold to someone out-of-state costed me $22 to ship. The gentleman purchased it from me at one hell of a deal and I absorbed the shipping cost because it had served the purpose for which I bought it and then I moved on to something different. I sold it at a loss and way below its honest value but my circumstances dictated that I go through FedEX. He also got it on the business day after I shipped it.

They're just hoping someone totally new to shooting will see it and think "Only a hundred bucks? Everything else is four, five hundred! Must be a great deal!" and buy it.

simon, actually I did love it. No more 24/7 pain.Gale is doin' fine. She has finally started dating a feller. I think she was a little shy to let me know but I told her she was pretty young woman that needed to get on with her life. I don't think Ron would have expected her to join a convent. If I see I'm comin' that was I'll give ya a shout ahead of time. If schedules permit mayhaps we could do lunch.

Hey Pelican, Give me a shout before you go to B'ham and I will go along as your nearest living relative. That way I can eat too. Don't get to many expensive resturants that have truck parking, so I am about due. Agree with you on the overpriced junk, but always like it when I am selling it and getting those types of prices (but I don't sell guns, so I am at a loss around here) Sandman2234
