At The Heritage Foundation, we tell the truth - even when others won't - because the truth is the greatest enemy of those who want to destroy our liberty and freedom.Sadly, certain Americans don't share this view. The Reuters news service has barred the term "terrorists." In a fit of relativism, their global head of news, Steven Jukes, explained: "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter."Whenever they name an individual, CNN has directed its reporters to preface the word "terrorist" with "alleged" or "accused."These media outlets have company in their bizarre behavior. Some in our nation's education establishment - those entrusted with teaching our children - have said and done some shocking things in the past few weeks.* The Oklahoma State School Boards Association told the Broken Arrow school district that a sign with the words "God Bless America" might violate the separation of church and state. The Roxbury, NJ school superintendent ordered "God Bless America" signs removed - until the community forced him to back off.* A Chico State University professor claimed President Bush wants to "kill innocent people," "colonize" the Arab world, and capture "oil for the Bush family."* A Tampa school teacher who came to Washington to protest, laid blame at the feet of the United States, and said Americans must "directly address the crimes of the U.S." Though he claimed he was sorry the terrorist attacks occurred, he wanted to draw attention to the "1 million Iraqis killed by sanctions."* The dean of the international affairs school at Columbia University (located in Manhattan, no less) even denied America is under attack: "Students in my classes see this as an assault on international trade, globalization."* University of Texas professor Robert Jensen said the attack "was no more despicable than the massive acts of terrorism ... that the U.S. government has committed during my lifetime."* A University of North Carolina lecturer said, if he were president, he would apologize to "the widows and orphans, the tortured and the impoverished and all the millions of other victims of American imperialism."While these "educators" are spreading twisted messages from the fantasy world they inhabit, The Heritage Foundation will continue to tell the truth - to Congress, the media, and the public.Indeed, the Minneapolis Star Tribune recently gave our leading role in standing up for America an unintended compliment:"Before Bush came to office, the Lone Rangers operated mostly in Congress and in non-governmental groups. They are the Jesse Helmses of politics and The Heritage Foundations of policy. They have never seen an arms-control agreement they like, an alliance they trust or an international body they do not suspect of nefarious plots against U.S. interests. They have an overwhelming belief in America's righteousness." If standing in defense of America makes us a Lone Ranger then we happily play the role. But the truth is, the Lone Ranger rode alone and Heritage is not alone in this fight. There are untold legions of Americans like you committed to freedom, free markets, and the rule of law. But, freedom is never free and we need your help to counter the lies of those whose reflex is to bash America. In over 200 media interviews since September 11, Heritage experts have given the facts to the American people, and we continue to spread the truth day in and day out.Today, I hope you will make a contribution to this cause:https://secure.heritage.org/supportthf.cfm?truth-caYour generous donation of $25, $50, $100, or more will help ensure that America will continue to hear the truth.Sincerely,Edwin J.
