Having never fooled with collector knives I am kinda at a loss. Checked ebay and didn't see any of these.Have a set of Schrade that was made for Massey Ferguson Tractor Co. Each knife is serial numbered the same. How can I find out how many sets were made? Is there a web site where I might get an approx value? Thanks, Pel

You may or may not be aware but Massey Ferguson was a Canadian company that went broke.AGCO (public company on NYSE) sells tractors under that name plate but there is not a Massey Ferguson company as such today.Your best bet might be to persue a model tractor collection group and they might be familiar with this item. It was probably a dealer "give away" or it may have been a premium that accompanied a tractor sold at retail. If you find the "right" person it is probably of great collector value.Do not sell it cheap!!!pssst I'll give you $5.00 and a box of bullets - your choice of calibre (ha, ha)

Pelican, contact A.G. Russell in Springdale Arkansas they build some high quality Knives and put out a book on knife Values..1-800-255-9034 webb site (www.4knives.net) Your knife set may or may not be in the book but they may be able to tell you or get you pointed in the right direction..I have a customer that is a knife collector/trader that will probably know the value of your knife set. I will try to contact him tomorrow if I am not to busy. If I don't get ahold of him tomorrow I will see him next Wednesday and get his opinion, This is purely a coincidence but he is a maintenance man for AGCO, for his day job and they build some Massey Equipment in the plant...We may end up with more than 1 opinion...OTO Now what are we going to do if he wants to buy them from you?

Hey bird, If you don't get the info you need I work with a guy who is a very large coin and knife collector. He even collects quarters. Last time I talked to him he had sixty five thousand dollars in quarters alone! He has a one pound bar of gold that he likes to show people and he has just about every kind of knife you can think of. Pelican I asked my knife collector/seller buddy for you today but I messed up and thought you had a set of individual folding Knives so the info that I got from him isn't accurate. I will print the picture and show it to him next Wednesday, then he will have a better idea about what we are talking about. He did tell me that the most they run any time of the collector series knives is 500. He said you probably would not be able to find a vaule listed in any book. More later OTO

Thanks OTO. The guy I got them from said they were issued in '96. I sent an email to Schrade today to see if they would verify that and give me production amount.Anything you can come up with will be appreciated. Here are the URL's to go to the pictures directly (might can get a better copy): http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/2393946/1016841061670_MVC_007S.JPG http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/2393946/1016841060903_MVC_008S.JPG

Yo Pelican, Those are some good looking sticks, I am a big knife lover myself, and I have a few knives laying around in my collection, and the one that I like the best is the Spyderco Walker...Folder. My favorite knife that I own was just given to me by my uncle. It is a Hand Made "Stone" Bird and Trout...My next favorite is a Benchmade Automatic, but it illeagal except for Military and LEO, so if I was caught with it the guy that took it away from me would end up owning it! I went to my neices basket ballgame a while back and had to go through a metal dectetor and the dude didn't even like the looks of my little spyderco, I am sure glad I didn't have the Benchmade Mel Pardue Automatic along, Probably would have missed the game! Be sure and keep that SaltWater away from those good looking Knives. I will have you a better answer Wednesday Night, Did you ask Schrade what they sold for new?

Hey, Pelican. My eldest brother-in-law used to work for Sperry-New Holland, now defunct. He loved the company. Before Christmas last year, I found a Barlow knife marked, "Sperry New Holland," in a group of knives that a friend bought. I acquired the knife, cleaned it up, sharpened it, and presented it to him at Christmas. I don't know the value in dollars but to him it was about the best thing he could have gotten.

Nunn, New Holland is now Ford/New Holland. I call on AGCO which has gone through a lot of ownership and name changes, Acquiring a lot of smaller companys along the way..About 2 years ago one of their people showed me flow chart of what has happened to the Agricultural manufactures, It is Amazing. They Recently (about 1-1/2 Years ago) brought Gleener Combine production into the Hesston, Kansas facility, Along with Wye out of Texas and another name that I can't recall right now! and now for the coup de gra, AGCO has entered in to some kind of Joint Venture with Catipiller, more on that later....It is not secret as it was published in the paper, but I did hear some scuttlebut about it before it was anounced....But trust me I can keep a secret! You know the old saying if you tell someone it is no longer a secret! HA

Hey OTO, you seem to be a weath of info on agricultural equipment. My wife's dad farmed for a living. There is a bunch of farm equipment at his old place. This stuff is going to waste away. I told her we ought to get rid of it (her folks have both passed away). I am wondering how I can find out what the stuff is worth. Is there anything equivilant to a Shotgun News but for farm stuff?

Hey, Pel, most tractor brands have websites dedicated to them, with discussion forums, want ads, etc., kinda like here. Might be a start to get a handle on what that old equipment is worth. Just type in the name and do a search.

Thanks OTO.Hey Beast, he got rid of the tractors ('cept for the old Ford Jubilee that my wife drove as a little girl, she calls it sugerfoot. I got it running after we got married and it's still goin')There is a combine (Gleener sp?), some grain drills, a 4 or 5 bottom plow unit, and some rusty stuff that looks like it has been 'round a hundert years.I really do 'preciate y'all's patience with me. Just trying to learn (so I can prove you can teach an old dog - or old pelican),Later, Pel

Pelican, Here are a couple of Publications that will help with the value of your equipment: 2002 Hot Line Farm Equipment Guide, and Cappers Weekly. While the Gunbroker site was down last night I found some sites that will help you, They are: www.buyersguideontario.com www.farmclassifieds.com www.fastfinder.com www.farmequipment.com www.agriculturesearch.com I found these by putting "FARM EQUIPMENT" IN THE BROWSER. One of the guys that I asked had just thrown a Blue Book of Values away about 3 months ago. Had I known then I could have picked it up for You. Good Luck OTOP.S. If you live anywhere close to a large city you can visit or call the Business & Technology department of the Library and they might have these books or others that would help you. They normally don't check these type of books out but you can go do the research....I have even had them answer questions for me over the phone when I am in a hurry for an answer, they are nice people!

Pelican, I finally ran my bud down today and got you the information on the knife set. He said in his opinion the set would be worth between $250.00 & $300.00. If you can find a Massey Ferguson Collector looking for this set. He usually breaks up a set and sells them individually for fast turn over on his money. Which means if a lot of dealers are doing that then your set will get more valuable over time as the sets will all be broken up...(Just my opinion) He also told me what he would sell each of the knives in the collection for:Top Left $30,Middle $50,Top Right $35,Bottom Right $25, Bottom Left $20, and the box by itself is worth about #30...And Guess What the other company that I was trying to think of that they build in Hesston
MASSEY FERGUSON. Wow They to are an AGCO Division.
