I'd tell them that if they would have been gentlemen and asked, they could have hunted my property. Since they didn't, any further trespassing will earn them a visit from the county sheriff. I would accept an apology, though. Sounds like this may have been a bit of "Christmas Cheer" drank too fast. Not a good thing!

Does this sound familiar! I also am a coyote caller and all winter long people run them with CB's and pickups. Really makes them hard to hunt or call. You are not in South Dakota by chance are you? Here is is legal to use radios and vehicles and even shoot out your window from the road of you are hunting coyotes.Talk about unethical hunters. These are the guys.

we hava has a similar situation with mailbox posts. If you have any that are closer to the road or easier to run through than some others, put them down with cement, it will make running through much more expensive. Secondly, I have less patience for the red tape admin. than most. I would return the favor , say about 2:30 am in their front yard. In lieu of that, take pictures of them running on your property, this goes a looooong way.

A few years back coyote hunters sped thru a farmer friend's property in a big 4X4 chasing a coyote. Suddenly ground to a complete stop. Had wound up about a quarter mile of barb wire on their drive shaft. Wrecker fees, tresspassing fines, replacement of fence and new drive shaft. Cheaper than unwinding all that wire.

Call the Game warden, he has jurasdiction over this type of activity & can help ya out if their even is something you can do about it, in a lot of places dogs that are pursuing game are allowed to trespass but the owner is not ! Your Conservation officer should be able to help.

In Texas, if you cross a fence onto someone else's property without permission, it is Class B Misdemeanor Criminal Trespass, punishable by up to 6 months in jail and up to a $2000 fine.Notice is required to prosecute. The presence of a fence is notice. Absent a fence, you can also paint trees purple every so often and that serves as notice.I like the caltrop idea. I saw a lumber yard once that did a variation on that theme. Guys on our shift jumped some thieves in this lumberyard. Thieves lit out for the back fence. One officer drove his car around to the back to try and head them off. Little did he know that the lumber yard guys laid a trap for vehicles next to the back fence, presumably to make it hard to bring in a truck, cut the fence, and haul off a lot of lumber. When the officer came back out onto the pavement, his tires sounded like a dozen or more tap dancers all going at once. The tread areas of his tires were solid paper nails. Pretty funny, and effective. We had to bring up three more patrol cars and pull out the spares to put him back on the road.

Drive to your sherrif's office first thing in the morning. Explain to him what happened. I would bet there are laws against trespassing, not to mention distruction of private property, where you live. Give the sherrif the names of the guys and insist the sherrif take action against them. Be prepared to press charges. It may not win you a popularity contest in the area, but you have to have a showdown with these guys, otherwise they will continue to take advantage of you.

Mr. Nunn might have to throw a little bit of light on this, but you may want to be careful where you employ any type of boobytrap, or at least have a good cover story i.e. "Oh, those? Those are "Cattle Retention Devices" to keep my cows from getting too close too, rubbing on, and stretching the fence." Hopefully, the Sheriff and local Prosecutor both smile and nod.I seem to recall TX and a few other states beefed up their "unattended harmful devices" (booby trap) laws after a rancher (in TX?) wired up a SXS 12 GA to the front door of an abandoned/unused farmhouse that was being broken into and pilfered. It worked. The thief never broke and entered into anything, anywhere, ever again. Unfortunately, the rancher went to jail for a hell of a long time.

Booby traps that are designed or could be reasonably expected to cause death or injury are not allowed for protecting property.I don't think a device designed to flatten a tire is such a trap. How about the jeweler I read of many years ago who had no burglar alarm, but released several large rattlesnakes in his shop at closing time?

Hardtymes-You observed armed trespassers on your property. Do the right thing - press charges and initiate a civil action against them. Make sure your property is adequately posted with "No Trespassing" signs.Don't take personal action, unless you "own" the law in your neck of the woods, as you will end up being the criminal.
