Ok, say you live in the lower 48 but are planning a hunting trip to Alaska. Say you are going to drive and you have to pass through Canada in order to do this. How can you take firearms through Canada to Alaska? For argument sake, you are taking Two rifles and a pistol per traveler and you have three other people going with you.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

You will have to fill out a form to transport firearms through Canada. Believe it or not, you can now transport handguns through Canada as long as it does not fire a 32 or 25 caliber cartridge and does not have a barrel shorter than 4 1/4". The cost for transporting is $50 CAD and all the fireams must be registered with canadian officials. Below is the phone number to call.

1-800-731-4000(Ext. 9062) or go to this website to get some answers. www.cfc.gc.ca or e-mail canadian.firearms@justice.gc.ca

Would you think its safe to register these guns with the canadien govt? I would assume they can very easily amass a list of hunters that travel through canada and give the US a list of all firearms transfered through there.

pikal1...I was going to address that possibility a little earlier and then I thought, "Nah, that's dumb". But, now that you mention it, an acquaintence of mine did this last year and, as aglore says, filled out the papers and paid the fee. No problem. But, then he told me that one of the Canadian officials told him that they were instructed to send copies of all records to the U.S. I don't know if this is factual or not, or where they would send records. State? BATF? Anyway, my source is a loud-mouth type guy that says he kills world record bucks and the antlers got lost in the mail, etc. So, I don't know if it's true or not. Just something to think about if you have an unregistered firearm and live in a state like California.

Fed reg's allow you to ship your rifle or shotgun to yourself, by-passing Canada... going to your destination BUT you are the only one who can open the package...check this out before accepting my word. AZ for Canada, if I won a fishing or hunting trip to there I'd dump it. I'd spend my money only in America.

Have a friend that owns a gun shop in Edmonton. Alberta. Was over there last October doing some goose and pheasant hunting. Didn't have to bring a firearm as I could just borrow one of his. That is the same thing I would do IF I was ever to win a hunting trip in Alberta.
