That is an excellent deer cartridge. As for the gun, I'm not sure who all is producing them in that caliber right now. I'd go green (Remington) with a heavy barrel if they are offering it...it'd make a nice long range varmit round too.

thats a good round but harder to find. if'n your wanting a 25 cal. i would go with a 25-06. more accessible and more manufactures chamber for it.

This is a great moderate power / recoil round for white tail. If you handload, it will never be a problem to make the ammo in our lifetimes (presuming the DNC is held at bay, of course).

I too think it's a great light recoiling deer round. The 25-06 would be better/flatter if one can handle the slight increase in recoil since ammo is a lot easier to find, it's stronger, faster, flatter, and cheaper.

Allen, Didn't Savage chamber the 99 for it years back?

It was definately made in the Browning BLR for a while, MY cousin has one. I've only seen two, in person, but have seen one on here in the last year. I've taken 6 deer with the .257 Rob'ts in a Ruger 77 Ultra light, which is still made.
