I am sitting in an internet dry cleaners on Darling Harbor in Sydney. Tuesday morning here, and I have found Starbucks, and the fly fishing shop. Probably no hope of finding a gun shop here, so I won't try. Off to the Aquarium and a bit of touristing, before heading to Darwin in the Northern Territory to chase crocodiles.

Best to all, He Dog

He will say they drink "Lions"-beer and pi$$ Fosters.

    Actually Fosters is quite good...

I usually drink Black Swan or Cascade brand of beers when I'm there. I even went on a tour of the Black Swan brewery once when I was in Perth, that was a day to remember.

Up at sparrow f@rt (sunrise), and had a dingo's breaky (a whizz and a look around). These Aussies are fairly civilized folks, they have Starbucks and internet cafes, at least in Sydney. Fly fishing here would be prohibitively expensive. The rods are dominated by the American makers, Sage, Winston, Redington etc. Reels are all Asian made. An Orvis Battenkill like mine would cost over $400 here, nearly four times the US price. Flies are $2.95 each, again over three times what I pay at home, even more than twice as much as the few patterns I buy from England. There is some trount fishing south and west of Sydney, though most of the fishing here is saltwater, including fly fishing. Serious angler can go to Tasmania or to New Zealand (about the same distance either way) for very different kinds of fly fishing. Both have trount, rainbows, and browns, but the streams are different. New Zealand has world class streams, and attracts well healed fly fishermen out to bag trophy streams and bragging rights about having fished there, and some pretty good trout too. Tazzie has a little more laid back small mountain stream fishing. Not time for fishing for me, as I will mostly be in the Northern Territory, and I don't have anything heavy enough for berramundi. Off to the Royal botanic garden today to look at the plant collection and see if I can find the flying foxes roosting there. This is all work you understand. I will try to post some pictures with JustC's help after I get back and have a reader available. It is really a great place so far, parrots flying around and interesting stuff a biologist likes. Off to the top end this evening, will try to catch a croc for everyone. Cheers, He Dog
