[img][/img][img][/img][img][/img]Some pics of a luger I got from a 2nd cousin who was in the 6th Calvary Recon in WW2. BYF on toggle. 42 on top of frame. Serial no. 8XXX. Love it.

I just traded for a luger but I really don`t know much about them, just wanted one. At the front of the barrel it has 1940 on the toggle? it has 42. all the numbers match except the mag. Has about 70% blue still on it has a shoulder stock attachment on grip. Has a 3 digit serial number. Can anyone tell me anything about it or the value?? [:)]

I'm no expert but I think a garden variety military P08 from DWM or Erfurt (you don't mention the manufacturer) will usually bring around $1200-$1500 as you describe it. If it's a rare maker or variant then it could be much more. How much do you have in the trade? I figure the other guy felt he was getting a fair deal.

Made in 1940 by Mauserwerk. They changed their code later to byf. Standard Nazi handgun until production stopped (officially) in 1942 and taken over by the P.38.

Should have matching numbers and probably a letter suffix to the serno stamped on the forward part of the frame under the barrel. This is part of the serno and very important for dating to the month.
