There are plenty of der where you're moving to. Actually, not far from you there is a season for shotguns only that comes in a month ahead of the rest of the state. There are turkeys all over this state!! I only saw about 150 today, Slow day!! Fly fishing for what? Come toward the mountains about 4 hrs. and check out the Smith River in Henry Co. One of the premeir trout strams on the east coast. As far as the microbrews go, stop at a convenience store and pick up some Busch, MillerLite,Bud.,BudLight or whatever you want from the Macro guys!!

redleg, if you can get with some of the guys on the eastern shore of the state you will find some great turkey and deer hunting. There is also an industry opening up over the last several years for fly fishing in the chesapeake bay. Groundhogdevastation, you from around the area?

Chesapeake is one of a few cities that make up the Hampton roads area, it is located between Va.Beach, and Suffolk on the east and west respectfully and Portsmouth is north and Currituck co. North Carolina on the south side. Deer , turkey and black bear are plentyful in Chesapeake and neighboring Suffolk, the season runs from sept. for bow, and oct for gun, and runs till jan, the Chesapeake bay and atlantic ocean are nearby, as well as many fresh water lakes and also the Elizibeth river, and the inter-coastal waterway. Chesapeake's water supply is limited and the water table often gets low in the summer leaving the water tasting like salt, Va. is a shall issue CCW state so as soon as you have been here six months you can get your CCW permit. that's all I can think about right now,I am in a hunt club so if you want to go hunting I can get you on the right track, any more questions you have you can e-mail me at x2kcp@aol.com

Redleg, you are probably going to suffer from culture shock at first, because Chesapeake is the fastest growing area in the state--but don't despair, you'll be on the fringes of the development. In your backdoor is the Dismal Swamp, home to great bass fishing. An hour away to the south is the Outer Banks of N.C.--nice beaches and great surf fishing. Good deer hunting and great turkey hunting just northwest of you, although a lot of counties in this area are shotgun only for deer. Restaurants--knock yourself out! You'll never live long enough to eat at all the good ones ! Come northwest 4 hours to my stomping grounds and enjoy the mountains--grouse and trout. In short, you'll love it !!!
