He's diverting it to build a pipeline to Israel for the Iraqi oil. We'll get it back and then some. Atleast the oil companies will.

Tools...I think you are right. We tend to be a very short sighted nation which seeks instant gratification in almost every thing. No gratification and heads will roll....I really think we should have just won the war declared victory and gone home. Let the Iraqi's figure out how to turn on the water and lights. Beach

Beach: You must be a Republican! That's exactly what Nixon did in Vietnam. (But I do agree with you; that place isn't worth another soldier's life.)

For the Bush supports: Yay, Saddam is out, and the regime is gone. Woopeee. [;)]

DWS,I didn't say it was wrong. Those poor oil companies have been eeking out a few billion a year. Hardly enough to keep their mistresses in jewels and their sons in condoms.I say let them have it then maybe they'll leave the Alaskan widerness areas alone.

Well Tools1, I think your right. The good part, if there is one, he is not lying about it! He did tell the people of the United States in his address this might happen.
I think you and I need to go do some power shopping and talk it over[;)][:)][:)][:)][:D]

I thought Iraq was going to pay for their own rehab through oil revenues. Let them issue bonds.

Wow, Bush is cutting Federal raises to pay for Iraq. He's already cut benefits for veterans. He supports a renewal of the '94 weapons ban. And he's gonna saddle us with the largest budget deficit in history (and that's both as a straight dollar amount AND as a percentage of our GDP). What more can the man do right?

Oh wait, I almost forgot. HE LANDED ON AN AIRCRAFT CARRIER! WHOO-HOO!

Perhaps you folks have forgotten the reason we are engaged in a War on Terror? Let me explain how this relates to pay cuts.

We are in Iraq to get rid of Saddam's regime which was proven to fund terrorist groups with cash. That is fact. We disassbmled the regime and now we have the duty and RESPONSIBILITY to rebuild the nation so that is DOES NOT REGRESS INTO ANOTHER SADDAM REGIME. In order to do that, if a paycut is necessary, then so it is. Unless you want what...$3000 more in your pocket and another September 11th? Hey, its a tradeoff. That money will be used to rebuild Iraq (not that it is really a lot anyway). Once Iraq has been rebuilt, we are on step closer to getting rid of these terrorist nations by having a prescence in the Middle East.

Hopefully i didnt go too far off topic, but thats how i see it: Very logical. Then again, we folks in CA are facing similiar things...so maybe thats why it makes sense.

Burning Daily....The new democratic government of Iraq will be a fundamentalst ****e theocracy. It will be similar to the government in Iran and supported by most of the people. They will hate the United States and her minions and be dedicated to the eradication of all things Western. So what did we accomplish in Iraq? We blew up a whole bunch of their feces and it will take them a while to come after us. All in all not a bad trade off. They have oil, they have education, they have the where-with-all to rebuild their country the way they want. I think we should let them they have more billions than we do to waste on their little part of the desert. Beach

AMEN, Nitrouz! I always thought it was dispicable that we pay civilian gov't secretaries 3 times as much as our soldiers. IMO soldiers should earn far more than civilian gov't workers.[:)][:)]

Actually, what Bush is doing is capping the pay raise at 2% using an escape clause that will keep a 15% pay raise from kicking in for CY04. If you think gov't employees are overpaid now, think what the pay scale would look like with a 15% pay increase.
