Acting on a tip, Pine Bluff police seized a vehicle containing guns, jewelry and other items and took five people into custody shortly after noon Wednesday.

Detective Lt. Larry Plunkett said he received a call Wednesday morning from a reliable informant who said several individuals were attempting to sell weapons from a silver Kia with Georgia license plates.

He said the informant provided a description of the vehicle, including a license plate number, and also a description of the suspects.

"We put out a general radio broadcast asking officers to be on the lookout for the vehicle," Plunkett said, "and Officer Oscar Bullard spotted the car in the area of 27th Avenue and Olive Street."

Police spokesman Sgt. Bob Rawlinson said Bullard initiated a traffic stop and the suspect vehicle pulled onto the parking lot of Popeye's restaurant.

He said an unmarked police unit also pulled onto the lot when the "driver of the Silver Kia suddenly accelerated, jumped the curb entering onto the parking lot of Taco Bell, and then continued through the parking lot, exiting onto West 28th Avenue and traveling westbound on the street." West 28th Avenue is a one-way street for eastbound traffic only.

The vehicle fled against traffic for several blocks before the driver lost control and hit a house at 612 W. 28th Ave.

Plunkett said two suspects, a male and a female, remained with the vehicle after the crash and were immediately taken into custody by officers who had been involved in the attempted vehicle stop. The other three suspects fled the scene on foot, and were all taken into custody within 20 to 30 minutes after the pursuit began.

One of the suspects dropped a handgun while being chased by Bullard, and it was recovered at the side of the house.

The vehicle was towed to the Police Department, where an inventory of the interior and trunk resulted in the discovery of an additional handgun, plus seven rifles and shotguns.

Also found were a camcorder, 11 wristwatches, a coffee can containing silver coins and a large quantity of jewelry with an estimated value of $20,000.

Rawlinson said Wednesday night that detectives have confirmed that three of the weapons -- a rifle, pistol and shotgun -- were reported stolen in residential burglaries in Sabillasville, Md.

The suspects were identified as Brad Lazarski, the driver of the vehicle, a 26-year old white male from Pennsylvania; Anthony Ditch, a 26-year-old white male from Pennsylvania; Shawn Rohrer, an 18-year-old from Pennsylvania; Tiffany Manning, a 22-year-old white female from Maryland; and Gary Manning, a 50-year-old white male from Pine Bluff.

The suspects were transported to the Jefferson County Detention Center where they are all being held on probable cause of theft by receiving charges. Lazarski also faces an additional probable cause of felony fleeing charge.

Rawlinson said Pine Bluff detectives are working with Maryland investigators to identify the property recovered and clear up burglaries in four Frederick's County, Maryland, townships. They also are working with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in an attempt to determine whether any federal firearms laws were violated.

Rawlinson also said detectives have recovered 20 stolen firearms this week, including 11 handguns and nine rifles and shotguns.
