Coronado, California-AP -- Two federal appeals judges involved in the Pledge of Allegiance ruling think all the negative reaction is a little much.
Not only have there been demonstrations surrounding the courthouse of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, but on Saturday a plane flew over the home of Judge Steven Reinhardt.
It towed a banner reading, "One Nation Under God."
Reinhardt finds that "a bit excessive." Judge Alfred Goodwin calls the protests "the noisiest thing" he's ever experienced.
Three weeks ago, they ruled the Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional because the phrase "under God" violates the separation of church and state.
That ignited a firestorm of disagreement from President Bush on down.
Reinhardt and Goodwin commented on the protests during a judges' conference in Coronado, California. Their ruling is on hold.
[Under god does not violate the constitution!]

What exactly has been declared unconstitional:
The entire Pledge becuase of "under god"
or the inclusion of "under god" while saying the pledge?
In other words, is legally ok to say the pledge in schools and other places if the words "under god" are omitted or is the whole thing taboo until they get this straightened out?
