SENATE DEBATE PROBABLY TODAY on lawsuits/AWB

S.659/S.1806, the bill that will help eliminate frivolous lawsuits against the firearms industry, will be taken up in the Senate this week, possibly as soon as tomorrow. It is widely reported that Sen. Feinstein will attempt to amend the bill with a renewal of the 1994 "Assault Weapons" Ban. Her new idea of a ban will make the last one pale in comparison, and remember, she herself is a CCW. It's ok for her, but not for you. She is "elite", you are nothing.
She is the perfect example of the future for us if we do not start acting. She doesn't want "US" to have ANY guns. Yet she realizes out of fear, that she can prevent a crime against herself. We the "nothings" however, have no right to self-defense, only "elites" do.

The anti-gun lobby is staging a "phone-in" tomorrow (Tuesday, February 24th) in opposition to S.659. Though the bill already has enough co-sponsors (54) to ensure passage, a filibuster could still be attempted, which is presumably what the anti-gun side is hoping for.

To ensure our elected officials know they will lose more votes than they gain by supporting a renewal of the AWB, we all need to do our part by calling our Senators and voicing our strong opposition to the Feinstein AWB renewal amendment that will be offered for S.659... not only should this ban not be renewed, it should not be allowed to cloud the issue of whether S.659, an unrelated bill, should be passed.

The anti-gun folks are asking their people to call between the following hours:

9:00 AM - 1:00 PM Eastern Standard Time
8:00 AM - 12:00 PM Central Standard Time
7:00 AM - 11:00 AM Mountain Standard Time
6:00 AM - 10:00 AM Pacific Standard Time

Call 202-224-3121 and ask for one of your Senators' offices (you'll have to call back to reach the other one).

Even if you've already called your Senators in the past few weeks, CALL AGAIN tomorrow. Be polite, but firm in your opposition to Feinstein's AWB renewal amendment. Please spread the word to everyone you know.

Thank you, everyone, for taking an active role in ensuring this useless ban does indeed sunset this September.

It is rumored that the NRA will support this "compromise". This will assure it will go through if we don't stop it.

PLEASE CALL your senators tomorrow, PLEASE!

If the people have become so apathetic that they will not vote out all the liberal scum (republican and democrat alike), the only solution is Constitutional Convention II the sequel. Let's get it right this time.

Here's the NRA's latest article on it. Note that there is some concern that a new AWB might be attached to it as an amendment. If so, I would recommend that they not pass this bill. They need to pass the frivolous lawsuits bill clean, not loaded up with onerous anti-gun riders.

    Action Alert

    NRA-ILA Grassroots Alert Vol. 11, No. 7 02/20/04

The vote on S. 659/S. 1806, the "Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act," could come as early as next week (note the vote has apparently been moved up). This is a critical time and your IMMEDIATE ACTION is needed! Senators John Kerry (D-Mass.), Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.), Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.), and Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) will almost certainly attempt a filibuster. We can also expect these gun-banners to try and load the legislation with numerous anti-gun amendments, including S. 1034-the Clinton gun ban extension-and S. 1807-the Gun Show Restriction Bill.

We are very close to passing S. 659/S. 1806 and defeating the threatened filibuster, but we need your help to succeed! Gun owners must continue to take action if we are to pass this vitally-important bill and send it to President Bush for his signature.

It is therefore imperative that you continue to contact your U.S. Senators and urge them to fully support S. 659/S. 1806, as written, without any anti-gun amendments! Also, please re-double your efforts and pull out all of the stops to encourage your family, friends, and fellow firearm owners to contact their Senators in support of S. 659/S. 1806 as well.

To further assist you in this effort, NRA-ILA has designed a special section of our website (www.NRAILA.org) that contains a host of useful information and resources, including additional background on the bill, a list of current cosponsors, and sample letters to your lawmakers and to the editors of your local papers.

In addition, you can call your U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121, or you can use the "Write Your Representatives" tool at www.NRAILA.org to find contact information.

Any attempt to add the new, more stringent and extremely foul AWB to this bill would be an attempt to put one over on the American people. This bill cannot pass if an AWB is attached to it. Be sure to tell your reps you support this bill strongly but you are even more adamant that a new Assault Weapons Ban not be attached to it at the last minute.
