South Carolina Legislative Update
On May 28, Governor Jim Hodges (D) signed House Bill?3010 into law, making revisions to the existing South Carolina Right to Carry (RTC) law. The revised RTC law includes provisions allowing permit holders to carry in parks and facilities under the jurisdiction of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, including highway rest areas.?Please call Governor Hodges at (803) 734-9400 and thank him for supporting changes in South Carolina's RTC law that increase the safety of South Carolinians.? You can also contact Governor Hodges via e-mail by clicking here

They only started to "support" the GrassRoots bill after it passed. Now, they are trying to claim credit for the very bill they opposed and tried to kill

    Important New Hampshire Update
On Wednesday, June 5, an important public hearing will be held for residents of Belknap County to voice their opposition to the proposed Gun-Free Laconia Bike Week-a proposal that seeks to create a "gun-free" zone in Laconia during Bike Week 2002, which will run from June 8 - 16. It is critical that gun owners and sportsmen attend the public hearing to show opposition to this unneeded and excessive proposal. The hearing will be held at Laconia City Hall, located at 45 Beacon Street East. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the 2nd Floor Large Conference Room. Please plan on attending this important meeting which will determine your freedoms during Laconia Bike Week. Your presence will make a difference!

    Delaware Legislative Update

On Thursday, June 6, the Delaware Senate will consider SB 190. This legislation would mandate that all handguns sold or transferred by a licensed gun dealer be accompanied by a "trigger-locking" device. It would also ban the sale or transfer of all handguns that are not equipped with a so-called "integrated mechanical safety device" after January 1, 2003. SB 190 would outlaw the sale of virtually ALL existing models of handguns on the market today. Call your Senator at (302) 744-4286 and urge him to oppose SB 190. You can also contact your Senator directly by using the "Write Your Reps" tool below.

The Next Round of Primary Elections
Alabama, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, and South Dakota will hold primary elections this Tuesday, June 4. NRA members in these states should have already received information on candidates endorsed by the NRA-Political Victory Fund for the primaries, so please be sure to go to the polls and support pro-gun candidates for office, and encourage your family, friends, and fellow firearm owners to do the same. NRA members in these states who have not received this information can call the NRA-ILA Grassroots Division at (800) 392-8683.

We're on the case here in the first state, after calling each of them at home it looks like the majority of them oppose this Bill. I'll be at Legislative Hall regardless on Thursday to talk with each of them again before the day's session convenes.

The NH reg should be dead on arrival - very poor wording, even if the basis met Constitutional guidelines. It defines a "gun-free zone" based on two main streets/roads & their intersection with town boundaries, a very large area. Inside of which are hundreds, if not thousands, of private homes. It declares that anyone "in possession" of a firearm in the specified time period is in violation. In other words, instant criminalization of many local residents. Locals are not impressed.
