A pilot's perspective

Have a friend who flies out of Logan on a daily basis as the Captain of the aircraft. Spoke with him at length last night. Seems he is subject to the same security checks as passengers. He has not changed his carry-on luggage since 9-11. He keeps a toilet kit in each of his two bags, each had nail clippers (one had two), scissors & a nail file. After more than a dozen trips through security at Logan and a similar number of checks at other airports on the return trips, he still has two nail clippers, a pair of scissors & a nail file. None of it concealed other than to be stowed in the bags. He thinks the security precautions a joke - "Do they really think I'm going to cut my own throat with a pair of nail clippers?" So the security is still p*** poor on the ground - where, as Dano has so often noted, it must begin. Not that anything MA govt ever does makes any sense, altho it does make dollars and photo ops for the pols. And then there is the irony . . . . He is scheduled to start carrying a firearm aboard next month. IOW, one day security will strip him of a pair of nail clippers and the next day, they will board him w/ a loaded firearm, although he's only going to have a brief training period with the firearm - he's never shot a handgun in his life (& yes, I'm volunteering to help him). We're supposed to *trust* our government? Do believe there have been too many marriages between first cousins in the political crowd.
