I inquired about some ammo yesterday and this is the price of shipping I was given. Doesn't this seem high?

1000 rounds of A002.1 ($72.95)_____7.62x39
Shipping: $23.43
Total Price: $96.38

    Depending on how its shipped!

UPS=High shipping costs, as they go by weight as well as size of the pkg.

I personally wait for a gun show to be held around here, then I can buy most any kind of ammo, at cheaper prices and dont have to worry about the cost of shipping

Depends. I've shopped around some and what I've found is that some sites offer a lower price but have a little higher shipping. It's the advertised low price that gets peoples attention. And I think from the product number you referenced I've gotten a quote from that site and this was the conclusion I had come to.

Gunshows are a no-go in my area. They always want $200 for 1000rd of .308. But mail order, even if shipping is $25, still beats the gun show prices to make it a no-brainer.

I have wondered about the restrictions, if any, on shipping ammo myself. Whenever I take a package to the post office they ask if it contains anything volatile. Can one mail ammo for less? I notice that CheaperThanDirt gets a 2 or 3 dollar surcharge for shipping ammo for some odd reason, and the shipping prices are rather high to begin with. What's the best way to ship ammo?

Sorry, you can't ship ammo by US Mail.

R9er - the shipping depends on weight and, especially, distance, but that sounds high to me. Looking at my shipping charts, I suspect there's an additional $5 - $10 thrown in there.

Offeror, absolutely verboten to ship live ammo by USPS, postal regs: Pub 52, Section 341.21c.
