What long distance carrier do you use?

Just wondering what long distance carrier everyone uses, for the land lines, and how much do you pay. Looking to find a cheaper one, if I can. I use Clear Choice. $.05 a minute, 24-7. No sign up. No monthly fee. I can not use a cell phone, I live in the mountains and they do not work here.A few years ago a friend who went to law school told me about this one. If there is anyone that can find a cheap way to do it, it's a bunch of college students calling home to get money. Ha Ha

If I knew then, what I know now.

Merc; THANKS for the link. The 3.78 sounded great until I read that it does not include Alaska. For calls to Alaska the base rate goes to 23 cents a minute and that is where most of my calls are made to. I will study some more. Again thanks.

Clear Choice sounds pretty good to me, as I'm thinking I can do better too. IDS sounded pretty good until I found the fine print about the monthly minimum. There are months that I do no long distance at all. Also, I'd be interested in a company that is lower globally as well as within the U.S.

Just go to a Sam's club and get an ATT calling card. Mine was 3.4 cents a minute. You can use it from any phone too. Comes in handy if you're out on the road alot.

I agree with woodsrunner, there is so much compitition in the calling card biz now that good cards are easy to get. The cards at Wally World and Sammy's are better than true long distance. We buy one card per month and our LD bill is cut in half. We no longer have a LD carrier and rely only on Sammy's and Wally World for long distance calls. I also use my Flying J frequent fueler card as a calling card, spend $20 a week on it and can call home all week on it and not run out of time and if I use it from a Flying J phone there is NO connect fees, not even the surcharge for using the payphone.

You might try "Marathon USA", A percent of your bill goes to NRA.

Do the cards expire quickly if you don't use the minutes, or do they last a while?

I've been using the AT&T calling card from Sam's for 3 years now, cutting my LD charges to a fraction of what they used to be. I checked pretty close and nobody could beat Sam's price, including WalMart. The calling cards also make great graduation, Christmas and birthday gifts.

You don't have to go to a Sam's store to recharge. You can also do it at the same 3.4 cents per minute by dialing the 800 number on the back. They will add the cost to your credit card.

    Hello all,
I can offer two sources for other long distance possibilities to any interested. There is a lot of fine print associated with any plan, including the minimum call length, billing time increment, time of day of the call in some cases, in state, out of state, etc. I am using a flat-rate, pay per month plan that works well, and have knowledge of a few others. Cost per minute can be as low as $.01, or less. Even most calling cards will bill differently at various times of day, and yet only tell you the minimum you may be billed. Hope these help.

Until I get Net 2 Phone to work, I'm using the AT&T cards from Sam's. Best I've found. I also discovered, by accident, that international calls placed from the US on hotel phones, are billed against the card at AT&T's cheapest direct dial international rates for home phones. **Big** savings if you have that need. This may hold true for pay phones, as well.
