Cyber terrorized: an update.

edited August 2002 in General Discussion
In an earlier post, I related to everyone here about my fiance being cyber terrorized by a local guy on the web.Well we went to the local police and they said they could not help us, because WE could not prove intent, and WE can't prove it was him who was sitting behind the computer!!!They wouldn't even take the time to pay the *#0!e a visit, which is probably all it would take to make him stop! Being these are "worm" type viruses,we even gave the guy the benefit of the doubt, and sent him a cordial e-mail telling him that we were recieving viruses from his e-mail account, and even sent with it links to free anti-virus downloads, and we have recieved no response from him.
We continue to get viruses from this guy to this day! We've recieved more than 20 viruses. With every attack, we send a complaint to AOL,which is his server. We have recieved no response at all from AOL.
We have saved all the viruses, and all the correspondence as well.
Since AOL continues to go on we are considering litigation against AOL
in the hopes that we will be able to force them into co-operation,
but I don't know...I need some advice!

Can't she just delete the emails unopened? It may take awhile, but maybe he'll tire of wasting his time and move on.

We have anti-virus software that catches the attachments before they can be opened, but the viruses are a daily occurence. There was also some threats of violence on a local message board. But because WE could not prove that it was this guy sitting at HIS own computer when these things took place, the police and, the FBI said we had no case.
And if we could prove it, the police informed us that it's only a misdemeanor. So this guy can harrass and threaten her all he wants,he will never do time!

You are WAY over-reacting to this jerk, which is what he wants.

Simply make a filter so you never see email from him again. Then relax.

    That's not all merc.
He is also sending the viruses out randomly on the internet, and putting her e-mail as the return address. We are in danger of being kicked off our server because of it. We explained it to our server, but we have been warned that if the complaint get to a certain point our server will cancel our service, and I'm trying to build an online business!

Great program. Check BOUNCE to bounce emails back as undeliverable, bad address.

I use it and cut my spam to near nothing.

Here in Denver, we have an idiot like this that has been harrassing women, threatening peoples lives, etc...he was targeting me for a while but has since backed off. Or wonderful police dept and the Colorado Beaureau of Investigation said the same thing, cant prove its him. Even when i was receiving pictures of my house, my work, etc, with the threats. this clown is known to carry concealed (no permit, he lives in Denver). Many of us have contacted AOL regarding this persons behaviour, but AOL has refused to do anything (cancel his account, etc). Im just wondering what happens if he really does do something....who wants to stand up and say they are responsible because they did nothing to prevent it?

    axlerfan,
I'm cosidering a suit against AOL/Time/Warner if there is no action on their part!I ABSOLUTELY HATE THE IDEA OF SUING SOMEONE, but the liberal media has created this legal monster that we have now!
I do have other corses of action before filing a suit, that I will follow-up on.But, I'll let you know.

    nunn--
That appears to be a good program but it won't bounce the e-mails back on my MSN account since they've gone to some extra security authentications on their sent e-mail.

And nobody with "The Screen Savers" can help you?!?!!!???

Also, how have you "contacted" AOL? Just by email? If that's all, I'd suggest sending some very professional (probably have a lawyer help you prepare them, maybe they should come from him, using his letterhead) LETTERS to their corporate offices explaining the situation. There is just too much email, most gets ignored, the old fashioned letter (delivered by express carrier of course) can command better attention these days.

Why not just put him on the Blocked Senders List ?

Also, in any letter to AOL, if you can include any suggestions that it is "racist" "sexist" or other "intolerance/hate" issue which is "motivating" this guy in his attacks, your letter will get a LOT more attention.

The only way we have contacted AOL, is via e-mail,We were hoping to find a Tel.# but are having no luck.We are not on AOL, which is I think making things tougher for us, but also gives a stronger case for a lawsuit.
Blocking the sender doesn't work, as he using multiple e-mail adresses for routing. But my finace has been able to "dissect" the header, contained in the virus, and find the point of origination, this same, one AOL address.

Contact the FBI's NCCS unit and see if they can help.

If not get yourself an old computer and place the email address of every federal law enforcement agency in your address book along with as many senators and congressmen you can find. Next allow the idiot in with his viruses. All you have to do then is sit back and wait for the feds to come to you and you point them in the right direction.

I like alledan's idea. The Feebs can't find their butts with five hands and a color-coded diagram, but if you put enough monkeys on enough typewriters, one of them will duplicate Shakespere. I'd add every liberal news organization / media outlet, etc. to that address book. After all, we should share the wealth with those less fortunate.
