Making powder dippers

I am sure a lot of us have done this before, but for some, I copied
the Lee powder dippers, made up in C.C's with a chart. For loads I
am not that fussy about, like the plinking 50 yd loads for my .375
Winc. I use a cut down brass shell case, cut down to a weighted
charge, with just a 5" piece of solder for a handle and soldered on
to the shell case. It is not that exact for any near full loads,
but a .38 Spl. G.I. case gives me 20.0 grs of AA 5744 for my .375
Winc. plinking loads. Very handy when the measure, using extruded
powder does not throw correctly and exactness is not that important.
Just thought I would throw this out as a idea. Also great for black
powder and Clear Shot powder. Same thing for shot, when reloading black powder shells with a cutoff shotgun shell for a dipper.

Joe, I've never done this, but I've seen many such 'custom jobs' on the benches of many 'old timers' who forgot more about stuffing cases than most of us will ever know. It works, as do the commercial scoops. Not as elegant or precise as measured charges, but good enough for low power casual shooting.

I use 25 ACP cases for 38 Spl and Bullseye.
A full case gives me a weighed bullseye charge of 3.2 gr and cut down for 148 gr wadcutters of 3.0 gr

Iconoclast: I agree with you. Not good for a real accuracy or
full load. However, in 1946 after getting back from WW 2 I started
reloading .38 Spl. with a Lyman "Nut Cracker" tong tool. Had the old
Lyman measure set up for 2.5 grs. Bullseye at the local drug
store with their scale (for advoirpois) and made my first dipper to
check out, just in case. Thats when I started that bit. I agree
about not being the "real way to fly". Since then have slowly progressed. When shooting competition with my .308 Rem. 40X I agree
that each charge MUST be weighed for true accuracy. (even though I
believe a EXACT powder charge is one of the least important 10 things
in reloading for accuracy). By this I mean less than .05 Grn. I know
I will hear about this. Right now, too damn old for real competition
shooting, so just enjoy plinking. Sorry if I bored you with, way back
    when.

Joe, "way back when" can be one hell of a lot more interesting than the last 10 minutes of technilogical marvels and usually is! Besides, it's always good to know where we've been and I for one **like** to listen to those who've been there before me.
