Clermont, Kentucky-AP -- Employees at the Jim Beam bourbon distillery are sour over restrictions on bathroom breaks.

Workers on the bottling line are incensed that they're limited to four breaks for an eight-and-a-half-hour shift -- and only one of those can be unscheduled. Extra trips to the bathroom can result in reprimands. And workers with six violations can be fired.

The United Food and Commercial Workers Union says some of the 100 employees have urinated on themselves because they're afraid to leave the line. Some wear protective undergarments. Others feign illness to go home to avoid demerits.

The state has slapped the distiller with a citation. Jim Beam appealed, and a hearing officer is expected to decide whether to sustain or overrule the citation. The commission's decision can be appealed in court.

Jim Beam says its policy strikes a balance between employee needs and the company's productivity needs.

I was starting to like J Beam until now.

If you will blame gun makers for every shooting then blame car maker for every car accident.

I thought that went out with the dark ages....Pretty bad when a company tells its employees when to go to the bathroom....I for one, can see a lawsuit coming here.....

It doesnt affect me but 6 breaks in eight hours is alot better than some factory's here. You get two ten minute breaks one in the morning and a half hour lunch then another ten minute break in the evening.Thats what everyone tells me.Myself Im thankful for convenience stores that stay open 24 hours.

    Best!!

I'm with Saxon on this one. I spent 20+ years in manufacturing with several companies. Never saw a bathroom policy in that time. Break times, yes. Most employers have at least that much humanity. I would bet we're only getting the union's side of the story and in my experience that is often as close to reality as a Klinton position paper. Maybe the can is the only place they can sneak a smoke?

That said, I agree with Spring Creek.
