tool brat gets a check from ss and I had to get an account just for her and I can only sign it if she is present[I guess Im suppoesd to get her out of school and drive 20 minets into town]or have it sent electronicly into that account and then ask for a trsnsfer so I can have it sent into my account ...does this make any sence
how am I supposed to get her clothes and stuff if I cant get the money?
she cant sign for the money herself because she does not have a picture Id, the state wont issue a picture id for any one under 16

I was in my bank last week and ran into a fella I played football against 40 yrs ago. He was laughing at the stupidity of people and relayed to me that he has over $50,000 in a non-interest business checking acct and the damned bank charged him $.45 service charge last month and he was asking "why?"

Christ, that's a no brainer...you have a customer with that kinda coin in a NON-INTEREST acct and you charge him?...and 45 cents at that!

    Shame on you!

I was a banker for over thirteen years, and the instances you guys have cited is EXACTLY why I went to another field of endeavor. I can tell you some real horror stories about how banks (particularly large banks) are scr***** the public without them realizing it. Let it suffice to say that banks in general now consider all aspects of personal (i.e. individual) banking "profit centers", and will go to any lengths to create a "profit" from operations of that phase of banking that affects you and me. My advice--- find a locally-owned, independent bank that gives a d*** about personal relationships, and move your accounts there !

    lax,
I still work at the bank you told everyone to go to and guess what, we charge fees too. Why, since when is any business a non-profit undertaking? There is overhead in cashing checks and clearing deposits for customers. Just as there is overhead down at the local gun shop.

It is just a business like most others, it just gets a little touchy when you have other peoples money.

Guess I deal with a good bank.
No fees or charges of any kind.
    Free MAC card.
    Free VISA Check card.
Only thing I have to buy is checks.

BoltactionMan, you misunderstood my post--- there is nothing wrong with "profit"-- everyone in every business is entitled to a profit, otherwise they wouldn't be in business long. I was referring to unrealistic "minimum balance" requirements, service charges on savings accounts, fees for DEPOSITING money, insane "holds" on deposits, etc. Your bank makes PLENTY on overnight funds, so don't get me started on the really petty charges.

Toolbabe, have you checked with your local PD? some small town depts will issue a picture ID for those under 16. They do here locally anyway. Knew of a few others that did, but that was a few years ago too. Might check into it. -Ralph

Stay away from Wells fargo, they charge money to talk to a teller over the phone-BUT ONLY IF YOU HAVE LESS THAN $200 DOLLARS IN YOUR ACCOUNT! That is NOT capitalism it is down right GREED! in the true sense of the word. It is such a cliche and not always fair to call some bankers crooks, but at the heart of all stereotypes....

I'm with Bank of American, but since I started handling all of my account activity and bill-paying online, I've been really happy. I don't have to bother with stamps, checks, and deposit slips. I did, however have a problem with the minimum-balance fees, but I switched my account type and got that taken care of; so I'm pretty happy with the services they provide.

Bolt actionman, No doubt there IS overhead...No problem but FIVE BUCKS? Just try and convince anyone that they can justify allmost an hours minimum wage pay to cash a d*** check! Its insane! I could care on a buck or something, she don't have an account ,blah,blah,blah....but it seems they also have you by the nuts...what can you do without em?Got your check, great try to find someone to cash it...and then some businesses won't EVEN TAKE CASH anymore! Geez! Anyhow I still hate em,they are right up there with the bloodsucking lawyers, poloticians, and the rest of the ilk! Thanks for the posts folks,I just had to say something....L.H.

My great-grandfather was one of those who obtained the charter for the local bank, circa 1870. For the next 110 years, it remained a local bank, one where the customers were treated as people, etc. Then they became a public corporation. Within the next decade, a state-wide bank bought up the stock and took over. Then the state bank was eaten by a regional shark. Now what little "service" there is, is impersonal and expensive. The local manager serves only to consult a manual of corporate dictat - not much local business meets the Hartford, CT., criteria for favorable treatment. I'd use a "local" bank if there were one.
