BACK OFF, guys!!! This is the first time anyone here w/ intelligence (which excludes PETA & the other trolls) has said something which **REALLY** pisses me off. I just came back from Canada and virtually every person I met - including many who approached me in stores on hearing my accent - volunteered support and solidarity on learning my nationality. I have no doubt it was genuine and heartfelt. I also read editorials and letters to the editor in the local papers which were virtual carbon copies of the sentiments posted here and in our own publications, and I don't mean the crap written by the neo-Chamberlains, either. The Canadian military may not be the biggest or the baddest on the block, but they are not second rate, by any means. What country has stood at our shoulder in WW1, WW2, Korea, in NATO? And paid at least as much blood per capita? Don't forget that the original WW2 Ranger unit was half Canadian! I don't know anything about the present Canadian Special Forces, but I bet none of the other posters above do either. I'd grant that they haven't the combat experience of our units (that we know of), but don't you suppose that we share our knowledge in Special Ops with them? And what about the SAS & the cross training they have w/ the Brits? Think about it. They may not have garnered the publicity but I doubt like hell their cojones come any smaller than our people's.And with the shape our economy is in, we are about the last group to be mocking theirs.Politically, yes, we have our differences, but when the chips are down, Canada is there beside us; sometimes *better* than us. Who was it who risked the lives of their own people in Iran by sheltering Americans and giving them passports to leave the country when Jimmy Wetcrotch, in common w/ our other Allies, was whining & doing nothing to protect our people? Bottom line, Canada is as good and consistent a friend as we as a people and a nation have ever had in this world. To insult them and their contribution to this campaign, as the above posts did, is way beyond the pale.

I agree we shouldn't be bad-mouthing their military, but the political scene in Canada is another story. They don't come much more socialist/liberal than the Canadian Govt. The Canadian tolerance of known Middle-Eastern terrorists living in their country definitely contributed to our Sept. 11th disaster.

Hello from Canada. I thought the joke was quite funny. We poke fun at our military all the time. I know it's wrong, but what the heck, EH! The problem is actually with the Canadian goverments lack of commitment to the hard working people that serve Canadian military. I know this going to be hard for some of you to believe, but yes Canada has special forces. It is called JTF2 (joint task force two)#1. Black Ops, took over for the RCMP SERT term. They do the covert hostage rescue and anti terrorizm stuff. #2. Green Ops, which is like your typical green berert, "in the field" kind of specialized combat training. Right now as we speak, the US has some of our elite Pathfinders with them in Trash-can-a-stan. They were training and assigned to US Ranger units when the war started. Canadian Force Pathfinder consistantly rank in the top five, and more often that not, rank number one and two in the Ranger course. (especially if there is two of them in the course!) The Vancouver Fire Department raise $600,000 for the families of the fire fighters killed at the WTC in one day! I know that is only around a buck fifty american, but still. j/k So be nice to your northern neighbor, otherwise we might turn off the lights and send down some of our flying squirels! If is wasn't for that damned Laura Secord Canada would stretch from the Artic to Mexico, and I'd be sitting in the sun and not rusting in the rain! Take care all, and keep laughing.Shane

I too just returned from Canada. I was struck by the number of Canadian flags flying from every house and store. I asked my elderly uncle "Why so many flags?" He said, "We are all showing our solidarity with the United States for what happened on Sept 11." I guess that's what real friends do and we shouldn't forget it. Beach

I feel properly chastised. Almost emasculated. However you choose to look at it, Lowrider has an undeniable point.

Well, I see in my absence this has far exceeded it's intent as a JOKE! so I will change the format in another thread.God forbid I should offend anyone even my British Canadian wife. However There may be a country or two that are not helping in the"war" effort.

I agree w/ Lowrider & Evil on the socialist tendencies of the Canadian govt. Other good Allies have fallen into that same trap as well - Britain & Oceania come to mind. But like the comment about the Canadian economy, I can't let the reference to harboring terrorists pass. This scum didn't board the aircraft in Canada, they didn't go to flight school in Canada and it was the *US* intelligence and immigration community that vetted their applications to legally enter the US for extended stays. Compared to *our* failures and liberal immigration policies, the Canadians look pretty good. Yes, tighter controls up there *might* have had a moderating effect in the horrors of 9-11, but but as we dig into this nest of vermin, it sure looks as though virtually all nations have contributed in some way, however inadvertently, to Al-Queda's success. Although IMHO it was in poor taste, I'm mighty glad you meant it as a joke alledan - but why slam the southern neighbor when you were called on this one? Hey, Beach - did you see many American flags on your trip? I saw several mounted with the Canadian ones in the Maritimes. [This message has been edited by Iconoclast (edited 11-14-2001).]
