First suit on behalf of detainees is filed Washington-AP -- A lawsuit involving detainees held at the U-S Navy base in Cuba has been filed in a federal court in Washington. The suit demands the freedom of three men captured with fighters for al-Qaida and the Taliban in Afghanistan.Their lawyers say their clients had no involvement in terrorism -- and that their detentions are illegal since they're being denied a fundamental right of judicial review. The attorneys say they were asked to file the lawsuit by the men's families. They say the three men have no knowledge that the lawsuit has been filed because they've not been allowed access to their families or legal counsel.Joseph Margulies (MAR'-guh-lees), who represents Australian captive David Hicks, argues the rule of law shouldn't be eliminated because of anger over the terrorist attacks. And a lawyer for two British subjects says hatred shouldn't overcome human rights. The Pentagon repeatedly has defended the legality of the detention plan.

Well, if the detainees were people just picked up by men in black masks during the night within the U.S. I'd say maybe they should have some options. But, I think the detainees in Cuba were all captured in Afghanistan fighting us! Screw em! They're lucky to be alive as far as I'm concerned.

A huge part part of the reason I decided not to practice law after going to law school was that I realized I could *not* accept cases in which the client was a scumbag and the time would come when I would have to choose between compromising my principles or tossing my career. These vermin *are* entitled to legal counsel; I just can't imagine who would be so idealistic / mercenary as to do it. The Marines would have to protect *them from me*!!! Slow roasting over a fire is too good for them.
