Al Qaeda Says Will Drag U.S. Troops Through StreetsCAIRO (Reuters) - The military chief of Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network said Afghans would drag slain U.S. troops through the streets, rekindling memories of Washington's doomed 1993 involvement in Somalia, a report said on Thursday.``The calculations of the crusade coalition were very mistaken when it thought it could wage a war on Afghanistan, achieving victory swiftly,'' the report by the London-based Islamic Observation Center quoted Abu Hafs al-Masri as saying.``America will only be certain about its mistaken calculations after its soldiers are dragged in Afghanistan as they were in Somalia,'' he was quoted as saying in the report, which was obtained by Reuters in Cairo. The Islamic Observation Center, which has close ties to Muslim extremists in several countries, said it received Abu Hafs' comments from its contacts in Kabul.Bin Laden's aide was referring to 18 U.S. troops, part of a U.N. peacekeeping force, who were killed when militiamen downed two helicopters in Mogadishu in 1993. Mobs dragged the bodies of some of the soldiers through streets. Washington then withdrew its troops from the Horn of Africa country. The whereabouts of Abu Hafs, the nom de guerre of Egyptian radical Mohamed Atef who is reportedly number two in al Qaeda, are unknown. The London-based Islamic Observation Center started issuing the regular report on events in Afghanistan after the start of U.S.-led attacks against bin Laden and his hosts, the ruling Taliban, on October 7.With U.S. military maneuvers pointing to a decision soon to send in ground forces for sharp strikes, the Taliban have insisted that their guest bin Laden, blamed for attacks on New York and Washington last month, would not be found.Sources in Afghanistan said Saudi-born militant bin Laden, his comrades and Taliban leaders were all safe. http://dailynews.yahoo.com/htx/nm/20011018/ts/attack_qaeda_usa_dc_1.html

It's all fun and games until someone's terrorist supporting country gets destroyed,of course then it's just funny.

IF they ever do drag, even just one, an American soldiers body through the streets, that would be the time to drop ALL rules of civilized war and become just as barbaric if not more so. Also, that would be a good time to launch a few dozen of the modified nuclear warheads, that have been transposed into neutron bombs. That way they get the idea that we don't really approve of their actions.

While I hate the thought of what might result if we start tossing any kind of nukes, one Western (not just US) body dragged through the street should result in the complete destruction of the area in which it occurred - with live video split screen so even the illiterate (which is what, 80+% in those impoverished areas?) get the idea. Cluster and fuel-air ordnance would have a better visual impact, IMHO, w/o (seriously) all the political hazards of nukes.

If the U.S. does not drop enough troops into Afganistan, the possiblility of "dragging soldiers" thru the streets could become a reality. There should be enough troop strenght to ward off any attempt to capture Americans. This "Limited" troop deployment could be very dangerous if they encounter an overwhelming force of trogladytes[sp].

Yeah, right, just like we nuked Somalia...The only difference is that we have a lot more support from U.S. citizens today. But, why do we have to wait for that to happen? They made the threat, we now know that many of their threats come true. Let's nip this one in the bud. I say use the heavy stuff NOW!

I wouldn't mind being the last man on earth-just to see if all of those girls were telling me the truth....

concealed, I agree. I originally was in support of the neutron bomb. It has limited destuctive range, about a mile across I think is what was stated in a report I read sometime back. They also don't leave the land uninhabitable for as long as a neuclear warhead would. The limited range would have shown the world that we are not out to destroy the entire country, not that I could care less if we did turn that area of the world into a large (read Texas size) glass bottom fishing hole. Although it would take a long time before it would be safe to stock it with bass & catfish, unless you like having a glow in the dark fish fry... hhmmm... glow in the dark fish... you wouldn't need to have the lights on to see your food... that would keep the mosquitos down... could be on to something here, let's call Washington and get this thing going, for the research, you know.

Perhaps we should just drag the Embassy bombers through the streets-still alive. All's fair in love and war. Why do we always have to be the civilized ones? Seems to have been our undoing in recent years.

To indulge the daydream, provided the rope or whatever is attached to the terrorists' genitals and they are alive when the festivities start, I'm all for it. Unfortunately, the political reality is that we need the support of Western European powers in this task and the opposition to capital punishment there is incredibly strong. The government is even playing footsies w/ the 3rd World Dictators' Welfare Society (aka UN) in this 'coalition' effort. I hate it; I'd love to see us ship that nest of spies and sleaze out to Berkley and nuke 'em all, but the reality is that because of our largely gutless political leadership over the past sixty years, we do not have the power - political, military or economic - to clean house in the manner it must be done without their assistance.
