I have aquired many very old cartridges over the years--unsure if I want to become a collector or to sell or trade them--is there any forums or web sites set up for cartridge collectors that you can share with us here?

Master, there really is no such site that I know of. There are a few sites dedicated to auctioning / selling collectible ammo, usually at laughable prices. Prices here and on the other major Arms site are much more realistic. I've been collecting ammo for 30 +/- years. Even though I'm a damyankee (had to slip that in after your other comments on the Reno thread, my Reb friend ), I'd be very glad to help you ID & value your items if you'd like my assistance. First thing you should do is go out and buy "Cartridges of the World". It won't tell you the value of rare cartridges, but it'll sure help you identify them. Here are a few sites to check out: http://www.cartridgecollectors.org/f/forum.php http://www.gunbooksales.com/cartrdge.htm http://members.shaw.ca/cstein0/welcome.htm http://www.notry.com/cart.htm [This message has been edited by Xracer (edited 02-01-2002).]

Xracer's advice is excellent. And often you can find a used copy for a steep discount. Even after all this time collecting ammo, I find it an invaluable general reference. In reference to my consultations, pix are good, dimensions may be required, particularly w/ RF ammo, as variations of 0.05 to 0.10" may be the primary difference between a .44 ABC & .44 BCD.Just joshin' ya about being a Reb. While I'm probably, by ancestry & residence, as damyankee as they come, I spent a lot of time in the South when I was younger and loved every bit of it except the climate. I have to live where I can breathe air, not drink it.

Icon----boy-howdy do i ever understand what you are saying about drinking the air
the humidity is so bad here one of my skillsaws ruined just by sitting in my garage----and the species of wildlife here is astounding----I am a reloader so providing necessary measurements will not be a problem----neck angles however are a weak area---I own a copy of cartridges of the world----a truly excellent reference
was able to identify all but a very few cartridges using this great work.
    Thanks----Larry

You'll also need a good set of calipers to measure your unknown cartridges.I personally prefer Mitutoyo digital.

Master, I've never needed neck angles to ID rounds. Diameters & lengths are all we need unless you have some wildcats, which are not included in my offer as I don't know jack about them nor have the necessary references.
