A security guard is attacked at a power plant By: Scott Saxton, WSAZ Charleston PUTNAM CO., WV, Nov. 5 - With the world as it is now, an attack at a power plant gets even more attention. And it comes just days after the news leaked that the coast guard was already looking for a suspicious boat in our region. At this point, the coast guard is not sure whether the two things are connected. It could be a coincidence. But here's the good thing out of this whole mess: AEP says it was a test that security passed. Putnam County Sheriff Stan Farley says, "Someone tried to come on the property." They came from the river side of the John Amos plant. A female security guard spotted one man and chased him. Then she says he turned and hit her. Farley says, "They were talking some type of foreign language. They got into the boat and took up the river." By the time police got there, only the ripples of the river remained. The men were long gone. They're described as two dark skinned men, wearing dark clothing. Joe Haynes, with the John Amos Plant, says, "Our security reacted exactly the way we wanted them to." The Kanawha River is very close to the John Amos plant. AEP officials say from time to time people wander on to their property. Two months ago, they wouldn't have thought twice about this incident. Now they do. September 11th changed that. A recent report from the Coast Guard adds to the concern. The guard says some boat is masquerading as a guard vessel in this region. Haynes says, "We're a little more sensitive to those kind of things, so we have to take that extra little bit of precaution when something like this happens." Joe Haynes says the already tight security at John Amos tightened even more after September 11th. Guards use mirrors to check under cars and trucks, just one precaution to keep much of the Valleys power supply pumping. The guard who was involved in that scuffle, Patricia Parsons, is okay. She did go to the hospital, but she only had minor injuries. The Coast Guard is looking closer into this incident. They have the discretion with any water incident. They consider this a serious incident, so they're helping out. They can see if there are any connections to the bogus boat. http://www.msnbc.com/local/WSAZ/M111982.asp

She should have opened fire instead of chasing them! That would have solved some problems right there. Also she should have had a second guard with her!If the nuke plants get attacked for sure then the radiation could be horrific.I say we should deport them all! There is no way we can tell the good ones from the bad ones.

Catching saboteurs should be at least equal in importance to preventing sabotage. Guards should have guard dogs, night vision and M16's and do their damnest to disable and capture trespassers. As we see, one guard alone can't do the job.

OK Dano, I'll pick it up then. The guy turned and hit her, then they both got away??? If that's all the tougher she is, there's no way she should be holding down a job like security guard at a power plant. The plant needs to be guarded by people (men) who will take whatever steps are necessary to stop and capture trespassers. Those steps include being able to knock the crap out of some dude after he takes a swing at them.I've seen this same lack of physical attributes in female cops cause all kinds of trouble. They get themselves in a bind trying to handle someone who is resistant to arrest and they don't have the strength or attitude to deal with it. A man must be called to finish the work."Gosh, they didn't tell me at the Affirmative Action office that things like this might happen on my new lady-cop job." Go ahead...flame away.

Damn straight!Besides, with the way things are, I doubt she was even allowed to be armed. Before I took over the family biz, I looked into moving to New Mexico and working security at one of the plants there. Those boys don't fool around. They patrol with long arms (870's and AR's) and more or less shoot on sight. I don't know why the broad didn't at least fire a warning shot to get their attention.

Hey, come on what do you guys expect from a minimum wage security guard.Naw, I don't know if they are minimum wage (I hope they aren't).But I agree, seems like the Homeland Security is not moving fast enough, they ought to have dogs, night vision scopes, and lg. caliber weapons, with orders to shoot on sight.I've been saying for some time know, close the borders, and deport everyone caught here thats here illegally, or detain, for investigation to see if connected to terrorism. They won't talk you say!! What is it with the government, illegals should not be given the same protection as citizens or anyone else here legally. Especially if tied to terrorism. "WE THE PEOPLE... means "US THE CITIZENRY" which includes all legal residents, NOT US AND ALL OTHER FORIEGNERS.How hard is that to figure out.

Add me to the list. Stupidest damn thing I ever saw, putting a cute lil' thing in a uniform and expect her to be able to handle a berzerk, 260 # man who is NOT going back to prison. Should never have let them vote, not too late to repeal that amendment...

Not all women are incapable of handling themselves, gentlemen. I've known a few who could kick butt as well as the next guy. That said, too bloody many are there to prove some PC point and have been given the jobs for the very same reason, not for their ability to do it.
