Makarov for carry?

I'm seriously considering a Mak either in 9x18 or perhaps .380 if I can find one. I've been to several newsgroups and have not heard of one negative comment as to function and reliability. Does anyone here own a Mak, and if so is it the deal I believe it is? My reason for this choice is purely economical, for at this point I simply can't afford a compact Springfield or Kimber. Any thoughts would be helpful.

As for the round, I think it is great. As for the gun, a lot of people here say that when it comes to defending yourself, spring for something more expensive. I say if it shoots as reliably as something more expensive, is as accurate, and hell, was good enouch for military and police use, go for it.

They are great pistols. If I had the money I would buy something in a larger caliber due to the fact that a carry pistol of that size can be had in a larger caliber and be carried just as easily. The Makarov, aside from the caliber, is a good gun and would rely upon it for reliability purposes. Dealers can get them for $99.95 from www.jgsales.com . These are the Bulgarian ones. Good guns.

They are just a tince on the blocky side but are well made. Pierce makes a rubber grip that will help the feel some.
