yep, get one cheap. A bosnian goes for about $70...rip off the barrel and replace it with a 30-06. Buy a stock from www.cheaperthandirt.com and you've got yourself a nice little rifle for under $250 with a good solid action.

www.e-gunparts.com has removable clips for that mauser.

Making it yourself can be a nice hobby.

    I have 2 Turk Mausers that I paid $39 and $29 for.
Both shoot quite well, albeit they are a tad fugly.

I bought a Yugoslavian 8mm Mauser earlier this year and it's a very fine rifle just as it is. Shorter than the Turkish model and in much better condition than any of the Turks I've seen. I can't remember if it's a model 98 or a model 48. The model 48 is a post WWII weapon. I think I paid $150 for it. Steel butt plate and kicks like a mule.

There are alot of Turks and Yugo's out there and they are great rifles. Turks seem to kick harder, some of the Yugo's and VZ's don't. There's lots of cheap ammo out there too. The Turk ammo is cheap but corrosive. Good rule of thumb, assume surplus ammo is corrosive and clean your rifle accordingly. Generally, any Mauser rifle is put together like a tank and will probably outlast all of us on this forum. No home is complete without one.
