If it could go wrong this week, it has.

Pretty sure this week can't get worse. Unless a galloping horse tramples me into a freezing pond of blood.

went sledding.. got in the car.. it was acting but but I didn't think anything of it, never had it in the snow before... heat wasn't very warm but I had that problem before and figured the thermostat was stock again. Drove it home no problems. Went to go sledding with another friend, car wouldn't get hot sat there and let it run.. nothing. I need a valve job pretty bad, it smokes at idle.. It started blowing COLD.. stopped at the oriellys and asked the dude if he had any clue.. he suggested maybe my head gasket was starting to go.. GREAT, just what I need! Oh well, valve job is coming here soon as soon as I get taxes back, I will have it replaced then.. right?

WRONG. Leave oriellys, get halfway down the road and smell antifreeze..... GREAT. Coincidence? I THINK NOT. Started spewing everywhere, limped it to moms house, as soon as I stopped the temp gauge skyrocketed.. it wasn't running hot until I stopped. shut it off REALLY quick, let it cool, tried to start it and its hard to start.. yep... head gasket.

So now, more or less I have to come up with $350 for the stuff to replace head gasket and the other crap that goes with it, OR spring $400 for a motor out of a salvaged car. Greatttttt. Ill pull this one out of my @$$ im sure.

Anyone looking for a sperm donor, or need some blood platelets? Will gladly list them on the auction side.[B)][B)][B)]

    Dad,
If you need me, I will be trying to get the car from moms to the house tomorrow. After that, I will be conveniently located in Grandmoms garage with the car. Thanks, have a great night.

I call dibs on the platelets. I have a brownish red van and my buddy sold it's soul to the devil in exchange for it getting us from Kansas to Michigan without breaking down. It fulfilled its part of the agreement. With the blood-red transmission fluid leaving a trail the entire time the fluid level never dropped.

My van did all the stuff yours did last year... Could have sworn it was the pump. Dealership said it was the hose and charged $300 for just the hose without labor. I have no idea how a head gasket could do all that stuff except burn your valves from antifreeze squirting on them. I am not a mechanic though.

This year my van did all that same stuff. Took it to an affordable mechanic. He swapped the hose. I still swear there is a problem with the water pump. It's starting to do it again.

I also paid to get the fuel filler tube repaired twice. It still rejects gasoline, spitting it on the ground. My van runs on hate... and spilled french fries. I hear its voice and it also wants blood, your blood. Give me your platelets. I need your platelets. I will have your platelets!

You're looking at it the wrong way. Yes, he's young... so he's gotta start somewhere, and what better way to start than with car problems. Give him time, he'll work up to the real "life tests" as he gets older! [;)][:0][:)]

Jake, as gruntled said earlier, avoid working on the car this Friday, if at all possible! [;)]

Big Al (RemOaks, in order to qualify for "Doug Wilson status" there has to be a redheaded woman in the mix, somewhere. At least, that's the way I remember it! [:)][;)] )

my kid has constant car problems. the car he bought had been in an accident that bent the left side of the frame where the suspension mounts. the car looked great but they didn't fix that part right.
He went thru right rear tires every other week while he was waiting for someone (me or his grandpa) to look at it for him. He finally worked out a deal with his uncle who owns a body shop. in exchange for some labor, his uncle put the car on the frame puller. It worked like a charm and took no other body work. Got a 4 wheel alignment and now th car tracks perfectly. Cory got so enthused about it that now he dives right in to what ever problem the car has. He has replaced front drive axels, struts, timing belts and heads. It is cool to see him become self sufficiant. I swear it was a turning point for him. Good luck, Jake!

I wish I got that enthusiastic about car problems. I once had a Chevy Citation that I loved so much I got another one. The reason I needed another one was because I blew the synchros out of the first and second gears from shifting like a race car driver and ripped the front right strut tower jumping over railroad tracks. I also had to periodically remove rocks from the fan shroud after one night of mud bogging in a road construction site that was abandoned because of very heavy rain. I cleaned them out but they kept respawning in there. Anyways... When it came time for a brake job I kept putting it off... By the time I finally got it into a repair place the bare brake pistons had gone all the way through the disks. When the vibrations stopped and the cooling fins in the disks were gone it stopped stopping so I knew it was finally time. The repair guy gave me such a look, kind of like "you're lucky you're not dead" or perhaps "you're lucky you're not my kid"... and told me to never come back.

My second car I had to buy with my own money. I had saved that money from tips working at Ponderosa. Every time I had more than 5 $1 bills in my wallet I put the extras in a dish. When I had 10 of them I rolled them into a very tight tube and put a twist tie around it. I figured counting $10 tubes was a great idea and that way it would slip into a big glass jug that I had. The person at the bank was absolutely livid trying to flatten 650 $1 bills that wanted to keep curling back up.

I still don't like taking my car in for repair so I drive like a granny now... It's probably better that way.

So I guess you got milk shake for oil? That happened to me a little while ago but I got lucky that I didn't have the milk shake. Mine was the water pump but the same scenario.

Wish I had time to go sledding. [:D][:D][:D] Just think, if you would have been working instead of playing, you would have the cash to fix your car.

Hell, we all have our moments when nuthin' goes right. My buddy blew a head gasket in his diesel pickup while towing his trailer back from our New Years weekend riding/shooting trip. First estimate for replacement was 5k. Second at a different place was a mere $3,400. He put it all in perspective when he told me that it'll hurt the wallet for a great while but at least he has his health.

But on a good note we all did get to shoot another friend's S&W .500 that weekend, so I call it a push. (The .500, however, did not push; it THUMPED on both ends!)

No, it became known as "Salt Hawk" after passing several signs advertising that sports team on our journey.

I know this aint what ya wanna here......but its just life. And really it can and does get much worse than simply car trouble. However frustrating it seems at the time.

Watch this short video. Its a great song about every day reality. We all live thorugh it.
Keep your chin up off your chest. It'll be okay.
