Poor guy! Go in there, let them start poking around and look what happens! Well, it's best to get these things taken care of as soon as possible.

My wife's side of the family has a colon cancer history. Two generations ago, they just died of it. My wife's mother's generation are survivors and all are going strong in their mid-70's. My wife's generation has been taking precautionary measures and there are no occurrences - yet.

It sounds like Larry is getting a thorough going over. I think that this is good for the long run. Hang in there!

The surgery is over.. thank god... He went in at 2:00 pm and was taken to recovery around 6:30... He did not go up to ICU until 8:30 at which time I was allowed in to see him... I wont go into details but you all know what ICU is about.. tubes, machinery everywhere... He was awake and talking a bit... he was in a bit of pain and was given an injection before I left... He will be in ICU approx 3 days, then moved to his room where he will be for another 5-7 days if all goes well...

I spoke to the dr after the surgery... the polyp was cancerous...they removed approx 14 cm...(around 6-7 inches) of the bowel and rejoined it... no temporary colostomy.....two other polyps were benign but the one that was bleeding was cancerous... the dr is almost positive the cancer was contained to the polyp as it did not invade the intestinal wall.... he checked the liver, stomach and surrounding organs and were clear... Just to be on the safe side, he took a biopsy of the lymph node and that result should be in tomorrow... but he has done countless surgeries and is positive the cancer has not spread, so no treatment is needed... Lets pray the biopsy confirms what the surgeon says..
Thank you so much for the prayers that were offered for Larry and myself... I know they helped immensely and God has heard each and every one. All day I felt someone beside me... I was not alone... and if I had that feeling, I know Larry had God's hands on him...There arent any words that can express my gratitude to all who sent prayers...Now for a quick recovery and the lymph node biopsy to be clear...

BlackRoses - Sounds promising. If the cancer did not violate the intestinal wall and nothing shows in the Lymph system he should be in good shape. They may recommend Radiation of the surgical sight anyway, but that is not too bad. When I had it (99) it was in my lymphs and I had to do the (ack) chemo thing too. I will continue to hope it is the former and not the later case for your Classic. My Regards to you both, Taz

Under the circumstances, sounds like things turned out about as well as they could. Very glad to hear it. Heck of a way to get a tummy tuck, though, Classic. Maybe next time you could try the Atkins diet or something, ya think?

Roses - I'm glad the surgery is over and soon you will be able to relax (mentally) some. My uncle had almost the exact same thing done about 5-6 years ago, same findings, same operation, about the same amount of colon removed. He is fine today, 73 years old, strong as an Ox. Larry will do fine and with all the prayers heading his way....

And thanks for the e-mail. Megan is doing better but still in the hospital. Might get out tomorrow. My prayers are with you both. Ken

Had the same thing seven years ago. Postoperative pain for two days was as if I was hit by a truck. The on-demand morphine didn't do it. No ICU though and the hospital stay was four days. Flowers and cards were meaningful.
People over 40 should should seriously plan on a colonoscopy especially if there's cancer anywhere in the family. There was none in mine.

My dad had six inches of colon removed a couple years ago (polyps). My mom handled it really well for the first few days of recovery, until dad started to act a little hallucinatory. She panicked, thinking he might be losing his faculties somehow as a result of surgery. I (the good former druggie) reassured her by telling her I was fairly certain this was a sign he was getting over his need for pain meds, and didn't need as much any more. Sure enough, as the pain med dose was lowered, good 'ol dad was back. It's the only time I've ever been glad to have known what too much pain med can do to your head.
