just a general question concerning factory new on ar15. how is a "factory new" ar15 that is assembled from many suppliers by a gunsmith, considered factory new. there is no named parts suppliers and no known factory assembly of these firearms. most of these assemblers provide no written warranty and or invoice. who assumes responsibility from these builds, other than the gunsmith, if he or she wants to, and where does liability fall if their is a defect.

What color label should be on a PRE-Ban ColtAR-15 box? Did some Pre-Ban models come without a bayonetlug? I do not have the weapon yet, still condidering to buy or not. Thanks Rich.

Contrary to popular belief, there is little diference between the green label, and the blu lable. I called COlt myself not long back to ask...they informed me that typicaly the green box was intended for gov. issue, but if they ran out of green any particular day, then they would substitute blue, and Blue was intended for civilian, but if they ran out of blue, they used green...go figure...I'm not sure about the lug thing though...I think that Colt was one of the first to eliminate the lug from all civilian configurations about the time they started adding the infamous receiver block....but I'm not real sure.. I can tell you this...if you call COLT, and give them the first few numbers, they will tell you if it is pre ban or post ban. If it has no mag release fence, it's probably pre ban, if it has no receiver block, it certainly is. Always rely on the numbers...nothing elce is more certain...

There is very little knowledge of Colt AR rifles remaining at ColtGreen label guns came with flashhiders and bayonet lugs.Blue labels came with the FH but no lug.they often have the sear block. There are no hard and fast rules at Colt.I still despise them for their politics and those screwed up pin sizes they use.Send me the #,XX out the last two digits and I can tell you which it is.The list is here at my desk because I have been buying two more preban lowers today.cpermd@centurytel.net[This message has been edited by cpermd (edited 11-24-2001).]

Colt Preban AR-15's came from the factory in both Green and Blue labeled boxes. If your concern is, the box being the original one for the rifle in question, the serial number is on both and should match.
