Kids and cigarettes...

I work in an investment casting foundry, at present, not what I want to do, but have to pay for repairs on my logging equipment. I know CNC machining well, whether it be lathes, horizontal or vertical machining centers, Mori, Mazak, Brother, Miyano, Mitsubishi, Okuma, etc., if it has a CNC control on it, I can make it dance if you want.
Now the melt, dewax, and coldbreak areas are pretty much a young person's game. So, I work with many, many young folks between say, 17 and 25.
I'd guess that at least 70% of these kids don't have a driver's license, and that 60% of them never will, in their lives. If you get caught smoking under the age of 18 in Wisconsin, your driver's license is revoked for 6 months. So, how do you get to work? Hell, you drive. I've never had my license revoked, but if I did, I'd still drive to work. And get pulled over for a tailight or something, and be revoked for another 6 months to 5 years, depending on the judge's feelings.
This is the most ridiculous law I've ever seen on the books. What does smoking have to do with driving??
Mark my words, in Wisconsin, in the next ten years, few people under thirty will have a driver's license.
Yep, that's a good way to promote freedom to all.
In case you wonder, my two driving-age kids still have their licenses, but my son's was revoked for six months because he was in a car with cigarettes, though he was not driving, nor smoking. He decided to park his car for the duration of the revocation, and is currently out of a job because of it.
To the law enforcement folks: Do you really realize what you're doing here? Personally, to me, this is PC run rampant, as anyone who smokes is automatically subject to hatred by the powers that be.
This is a pile of bull crap. And, if you're going to give a lecture about the perils of smoking, please make sure that you are not overweight and out of shape first, because I'm 45 and will put up a thousand bucks to anyone, that I can run a mile chain-smoking faster than you can run a mile with your belly bouncing around. And if you want a real challenge, I'll take you to the woods and see how many logs ya kin haul out of a cedar swamp
Any opinions on this law?
