Guess what gun I bought today........

M1A MA9106 Springfield. Wooohooo!!,
Its a long story. I'll try to make it shorter. I went to a gun dealer I hadnt seen since '99, to just say hi and see how his shop was doing, since he'd just opened it back in '99. We talked about an upcoming gun show, Blue Wonder Gun Blue, and carbide lamps, which I mistakenly called carbon lamps, just realized that on the way home. So then I talked about the price of guns being so darn high in this neck of the woods. He agreed. Told him I'd been looking at Garands, and of a bad deal I saw on one around here, he agreed. Told him for that much I could spend another 500 and get an M1A Springfield, which was what I really wanted. He'd said earlier he didnt have any Garands, but..now he said he had a M1A. What? here? in the store? in this little shop?? Yeah, he'd traded for it on some stipulation that he kind of got roped into I believe, concerning a Pre-ban AR-15. I said could I look at it, and how much? I stared at it the whole time the UPS man was there, and continued to after he left. Why? Because he told me I could have it for his cost, retail, just what he had into it. I about ripped my butt cheek off trying to get my wallet out. $899.00, plus tax. Bare bones basic model, synthetic stock, fired about a shot or two previously, you know how that goes, you never know. It came with one 10 rd. mag, in the original box, but I need a manual. No marks or wear noted. My wife, being the perfect gun collector's wife, said what ?? while waiting in the car after I told her I needed 958.00 to cover the price of the gun including tax?, after sitting there patiently for around 45-60 minutes? 'I guueessss'. God I love that woman! It helped I sold a gun for 675 yesterday, money is in the mail, crossing my fingers. On top of that, the fella is gonna take me hunting on the club property, which he belongs to, this fall for deer, and if he gets the coupons for the Springfield scope and base for this gun, hes gonna sell the scope and mount to me for 175.00, I think he said, and we know what that scope is worth. He's also gonna do my transfer we were talking about yesterday or the day before, for only 20.00. Soooo... was today a good day or what? How did I do?
I can only think of one reason I was so fortunate, God smiled down on me today for being nice and mowing and edging my neighbor lady's front yard, since her husband is gone on float. Could be a coincidence, but I dont think so. So the moral of this story is, BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR!!!!! He, he, he,!

Ho! What a deal~! Under a thou for a new M1A these days? I like the synthetic, it's lighter weight, but if you like to change your rifles' features from time to time, as I do, you can always look for an inexpensive set of M1A or M-14 wood stocks at a gun show and keep them around in case the mood strikes you. Now you can start looking for 20-rounders.... maybe a scope..... heheheheh....

You don't say, but is it a pre or post ban? I'd guess coming with a 10 round mag it's post ban. Either way it's a good deal or if a pre ban, a great deal.

If you need mags, at Tulsa, I know a guy that usually has several and sells them for somewhere around 50.00 apiece. Just checked and GB auction #5343695 has them buy it now for 51.00 in the wrapper. Seems a good price, how's your wife doing, think she's up for it?

    5db,
My wife doesnt need to know about anything less than 100.00 worth. She doesnt flinch on that stuff. I do need, really need a TM manual, or at least an owners manual for this thing, and probably some tools for it, but the mag will have to wait at those prices, cant justify it, till I get serious at that price. I hope to find something less expensive in G.I. type mags. Thinking about trying some Corps armorers, not too sure that will work though, unless someones got them stashed from the armory in Quantico. Let me know if you see any steals, thanks. Oh, its post ban, but I dont think I REALLY need that bayonet for shooting targets, unless I'm shooting so badly I need to assault the target.

Dude, your kidding, I just got mine today to.... Isn't it awsome.... I'm still trying to figure out how to tell my old lady she's going to have to sleep on the floor, cause their aint enough room for me, her, the cat, and my new love...

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

    lee,
Yep, it sure is nice, just wish I had somewhere to shoot it, but I need a manual first. There is a gun show in Goldsboro tomorrow, think I might go find one, I really dont want to wait for one to get here, but I dont know. This thing has features I really dont know what they do, little screw doo hickies up there for the gas system, and I dont know how to take it apart, and thats the first thing I need to do. I'd do my usual strip it apart any way I can thing, and worry about putting it back together later routine, but I dont think thats such a good idea with this rifle being so much different than other guns I own. Patience grasshopper, eh?

    Congrats Ryan!

You'll love it! The rifle is actually extremely easy to disassemble and clean, but I agree that you should probably take a look at the manual before you risk damaging the rifle.

I have the MA9826 model and its the best gun I own.

If you ever make it up to Michigan maybe we can convince Beachmaster to take us out to his club and go shooting!

    concealed,
Actually me and the wife are trying to come home to Michigan right now, but we dont know what to do with the dog and cat, or at least the dog. We dont want to leave them with a kennel really, and we only know one person we'd feel comfortable giving our house keys to but we've already been endebted to them for finding us the house. The neighbors we dont know well enough to ask anything from. Man, I really want to come home and see our families, what to do, what to do, think, think, think, says Pooh.

I'll volunteer to watch your house and dog for the paltry sum of one M1A Springfield. If not that, then don't forget to bring it with you along with the title to it when get up this way hunting, I'm fairly certain I can talk you out of it.

100.00! She let's you have $100.00??? I gotta tell my Bride this.

The mags at auction are GI which IMHO are the only one for use with your Springfield. Maybe you can find some around there on the East Coast, good luck. If I get any cheap I'll let you know.

One of the funniest things happened while shooting Prairie dogs with a M1A, my buddy shot one of a group. The rest (4) took off towards a hole, I miscalculated lead and shot in front which turned them towards another hole, shot again, and again they changed direction. Nothing but elbows and buttholes looking for a safe hole, nobody knows where they'll go. And it is times like this I prefer to have that extra protection a bayonet offers.

We have yet to have a good gun show here at the coliseum where they didn't have at least ONE dealer with all the literature, manuals, Paladin Press stuff, and reprints for every gun under the sun. I think you'll get lucky at the gun show if it's big enough. Frankly, there may even be a .pdf file on the 'net somewhere, if we knew where to look. Maybe try a Google search. You can get Acrobat Reader free, to view and print it, if so, if you don't have it already.

Too bad -- I have a nice manual on the M1 Carbine, but nothing on the M1A.

Robsguns, you've got to check out Coles Distributing (www.colesdistributing.com) for mags. They have new, GI, in the wrap at $45, or some used GI at $36. I got some of the mags in wrap. Ordered on a Wednesday, and they were in my hands on Friday.
