You aint no NASCAR driver!

Recently the local PD has been cracking down on Speeders and now Tailgaters. Both of these driving habits can be seen during NASCAR races. It's my belief that there is a connection here. That folks (lots of women) watch these races then in an effort to emulate their "favorite driver" slap a number on their car or truck, go out and assault the streets of our communities with their high speed drafting and lane changes.I'm tired of it. I think that NASCAR should be held liable for the promotion of such lawlessness and loss of life that are the results of these nutbags.

....the Amish have had this same problem with those young "Whipper Snappers" racing their horse and buggies after Sunday Church meetings.....of course drafting the horse in front of you gets a little messy....

It only seems like we are speeding because you are driving 10 mph under the speed limit. Have ya ever noticed that someone driving slower than you is an * but someone driving faster than you is a freaking idiot??

Heaven forbid anyone should get hurt in one of these urban race cars, but if they do, you know we can always suit the car manufacturers. Drivers don't kill people, cars kill people.

The drivers that make a lot of dangerous situations are senior citizens 80 or 90 years old out on thr freeway in a 65 mph zone doing 35. These people back up traffic for miles and they don't even realize it because they are too short to see over the dashboard and definately too short to look in the mirror.

I see on the highways signs that say "MINIMUM 40 MPH SPEED LIMIT" I always try to obey it twice over just to be safe.

Hey 5db- I know what you are talking about. Kellegg right? Towards downtown. It is insane. I ws driving down there the other day at about 1700 hours. The speed limit said 60 but I was going 75-80 and EVERYBODY was passing me like I was settin still. AND the tailgaters, oh shiznit. I had this little foriegn POS following me and i could only see their antenna flapping through my rear view mirror. Here was another thing that I was thinking about. Would the hand out tickets if I was going 75 in a 60 because i was impeding traffic. I bet the would, especially at the end of the month.songdog

Songdog, they had a big crackdown on Kellogg about 3 or 4 months ago I was going from east to west at morning traffic time and they had a whole line of black and whites lined up at Meredian, and again at Broadway writing tickets till who laid the chunk. Slowed em down for about a month and they are right back to it. Now not to offend any of the the younger feminine ones on Gunbroker but general speaking the young girls are the biggest Idiots. Just last night one of them passed me going on to Kellogg (US-400) just getting on an entry way! man I would just like to pull them over and give em a good spank'n. Humm might be fun for a couple of reasons...P.S. Songdog I haven't heard you mention that you are going to the Tulsa Show! You are pretty close aren't you?

OTO- I am not going to be able to go due to work. Third shift is killing me. I work 4 days on first and two on third. Cannot getadjusted to the sleep thing. THejob that requires the third shift is going byebye. I would rather enjoy the weekends instead of having the extra spending cash. My last weekend for this job is the weekend of the BIG ONE. I wish I could go though. I even have inlaws that live only an hour away from tulsa.I am low on cash after the wichita show anyhow.songdog

Yes I know how you feel, I am going with about 200 bucks to spend because I squandered my money on some previous purchases (the ones I am talking about were not even guns), when you buy a gun it is never squandering your money. and I have known for about 6 months that I was going to the show. The part that really bothers me is the gun I want to buy next is an old Browning Hi-Power and there will be a lot of them there because they are not that rare. I will just have to walk by and drool. Well we will miss you but I imagine you will be there in spirit...Save all of that overtime money and you will be ready for the October Tulsa Show, You and I both can really tear them up then.

Kellogg? How about Ridge Road??? or Rock Road?? 40mph limit running closer to 50 and being PASSED! I think bad driving habits can be directly linked to some form of an inferiority complex. After all once inside a car, all windshields look pretty much the same. .....accelerating under the green light aggressively moving through the pack, was that my crew chief or a fan?(Turn Signals? You know Stock Cars aint got no turn signals) breaking hard for a left turn off the wall or is that the curb lane.....

I feel your pain 5db. People that don't know how to use an on ramp, ready or not right turns on red, all the new cars that were made without turn signals, following on yourbumper, cutting in and out, 10-15 over speed limit, traveling phone booths. Why are we getting to be so rude? I find myself getting road rage and I'm one of the easyest going people you ever met. In order to overcome these feelings I just pull my hat sideways on my head, maintain the speed limit, hold the wheel at 10 and 2 and give the dweebs a big old slack jawed grin and wave. really upsets some folks. Oto,Do you think they will let any Kansans into Oklahoma after the beating K.U. is going to give Oklahoma today. Maybe you can sneak down there like the sooners did. LOL

5db, posted speed limits are, in fact, the max allowable by law, but this doesn't make them realistic or good. I never complain about people driving at those speeds - or even under them *IF* the conditions warrant. What does infuriate me is those that piddle along 10+ under the limit, especially when they get out in the left lane to pass a heavy truck slowed by a long hill - not many of those in KS, I realize - and then hang there for the next 10 miles. They should get off the highway and take the scenic route where it won't endanger the rest of us by triggering crazy driving on the part of those w/ less patience than I. And while I do prefer to drive at least 10 mph over the sluggish pace posted, you won't see me weaving or tailgating. In short, I want to get where I'm going in the least possible time but not at the cost of endangering me or thee in the process. On a long trip, my game plan is to put the pedal to the metal, stopping only to take on fuel and inspect plumbing - ideally both at the same stop. My goal is to average 63-75 mph including the stops, conditions permitting. At these speeds, getting there isn't *any* fun, much less half of it - the time squandered in the travel is just the price one pays. Had the exquisite pleasure of driving on the Autobahn once. Now *that's* the way things should be!

They're even worse on the senic route. At least on the four-lane you can get around them. On the two-lane backroads where there's few straightaways to pass, these slow poke duffers have cars backed up behind them for ten miles.

You mean there is signs telling you how fast you should go?! I agree about the older people that do 10 or 15 under the speed limit, they are the dangerous ones, everyone should drive like me and there would be no problems!

I'm a motor transport instructor, you dont even want to see me drive. I am unquestionably invincible behind the wheel. I am very safe, but when the road opens up, so does the carb. You wouldnt believe what I drive, and if you saw it, you'd laugh, but it sure keeps me from getting tickets, cops feel sorry for me, or the car, one or the other. I NEVER get speeding tickets, knock on wood. I tailgate too, but at least 5 feet back. People just naturaly get away from my car, its a junky looking Maverick with Bass Pro stickers all over it. I love passing the expensive cars that cant hang on hills, scares me when I pass the police though, I've actually seen them laugh at me or the car, one or the other. You aint lived till you've gotten a piece of crap car and driven like a pro race car driver, try it some time, its funnnn!

You think people get mad because you drive fast in a car??????? Do it in a truck and listen to them. There are people who think a truck should be placed in the right lane at 55 mph, BULLCRAP! You should see my 475 cat run on the flat ground! It may not run like a vette but top speed in that truck is 119 mph, I can cruise with most of you out there. But like I was saying speed in a truck and people act like your commiting murder. What a joke, depending on the road a truck is safer at 80 mph than a car is and it is so much easier to drive. Some dipwads actualy think its ok to speed in a car but ohh no don't let that truck do it. You also mention the granny in the hammer lane, how would you like to have 45 bushel on the wagon, try to make a run on a hill only to have some idiot jump in front of you and make you dynamite the cans at the bottom of the hill, now instead of climbing that hill at a decent pace you are grabbing in the gearbox trying to keep it on the high side, have that happen a few times and you will see why we get a little ticked at cars. We can't just step on the "gas" and go, you have to work to get the speed up and to have some dingbat slow you down is aggravating.

Iconoclast, next time you pass me honk! By the way, what number is your car? Ever think maybe them old duffers are you in 5 years? Finally getting the chance to see America after years of hard labor? And being conservatives they don't have much money to spend on gas so they drive slower? ....coming out of the back straightaway by Old McDonalds Farm is car #5 now at the back of the pack lined up behind the Pace car going into curve #3 under the yellow flag...

5db, don't have to have a number - my plate has my real world nick. But give me *your* number & I'll watch for it ! I won't be passing much in that POS minivan, I've never had the damn thing over 85 & it made me nervous at that speed. I like 'em low to the ground when I hit triple numbers - my sports car would do 157 according to a friendly local LEO's radar gun; couldn't quite get the desired 160 out of it (2x posted limit + 10). Best road trip I ever had was 803 miles overnight in 7:57 w/ two pit stops, NH to NC w/ three separate pace cars to pick up the LEOs in front: some gal in a Volvo sedan from I-90 to NYC, some diplomat in a Mercedes from NYC to DC and Sen. Strom Thurmond's (or SC Governor . . . plate was "1") Caddy from DC to I-85 - all three going 120+. Between the pace cars I traveled at a somewhat more sedate rate (I *do* miss that 75mph limit on the Interstates which wasn't enforced!). If I ever get to the point where I hold up traffic, I hope someone runs me off the road - and I'm only half joking about that . . . slow drivers are at least as big a hazard as those that drive recklessly at high speeds, because they aggravate others to the point many will try something crazy just to get by them. I always wait until it's safe to pass, but it plays hell w/ my tooth enamel.

Max speed limit signs are the maximum speed allowed according to road conditions. They can slap aticket on you if you are going 55 in a 65 zone if it's too fast for the conditions.
