Did the pull out, dry-dock, thing

I feel sure that y'all are 'bout sick of hearin' 'bout my boat, DOLORES CATHERINE. I don't care, I'll tells ya anyway.
The kids and I worked our schedules around so I could be off a bit last week to pull DOLORES and do a tad of work on her before the Biloxi show coming up the 18th-19th of this month.
Took her to the yard Weds morn. Dang tide was down a bit so it was slow goin' crossin' Weeks Bay. Churnin' mud all the way. Got to the yard after a 3 hour 50 minute trip. Noticed she was running sluggish and seemed to have more vibration than usual. Also she didn't respond to helm like she should.
We lifted her out and lo and behold there was not one but two crab traps wrapped around her prop. Also the prop had two bent blades.
Got the traps cut loose and took the prop to the repair shop. Begged and pleaded for it to be ready by Fri afternoon, which was when I really wanted to put her back in.
The rudder and shoe was pretty well encrusted in barnacles but the hull had dang few and they just blew off with the pressure washer. The bottom paint with the ground pepper added had done it's job.
Pulled the rudder shoe, rudder, and rudder shaft. Took them to the shop so I could get after them with a belt sander a little easier. Got them painted and went back to the yard and started preping the bottom for painting. Worked till almost dark. Went home, bathed, drank two tall boys and crashed.
Back down early Fri. Got the bottom painted and checked on the prop. It was ready. Got it hung and reattached the rudder asembly.
Now, basically I am ready to go in the water. WAIT! We didn't pour the shaft log with tallow wax.
No matter, can't put in anyway. While I was gone to get the prop they pulled a sailboat and it was sitting in the way. Told Jimmy I didn't mind waiting till Mon and that way I could come down over the weekend and slap a bit more paint around.
Went down Sat morn and started sanding above the water line. Got all the loose stuff knocked off and went to slinging paint. Went back Sun and finished off then got a wild hair to put a boot-stripe on her.
Got some masking tape and taped off about a 4 inch stripe at the water line. Had some Valspar 'Dolphin Blue' so I used it. Made a right nice boot-stripe.
Went down Mon AM (got my daughter to work for me) and they was just about to put the sailboat back in so it would be outa the way. Virgil, Jimmy's brother-in-law, poured the shaft log and repacked the stuffing box. We set her in the water and I pulled away from their dock at 10:00. I pulled up to my dock at home at 12 noon. What a difference a straight prop with no crabtraps makes .
Got a bit to do topsides before we go but she is lookin' mighty fine for a 66 year old gal. Least wise I think so but I may be biased.
Here's a shot of her just before we picked her up to put her in.

I love freedom, cause a chained dog ain't happy. A southern born child living behind enemy lines in occupied territory
I have a 37' Topaz Sportfish we use alot to fish out of New Symrna Beach Florida. I have learn not to trust mechanics, boat yard operators, electronic installers or canvas repair men over the past 10 years. If you want it is done right, you must do it yourself or be there while someone else does it. Last year I bought the best possible bottom paint I could find (Bahama legal)and paid the boat yard a premium to do what I usually do. I got a lousy, lousy, messy job and later found MY unopened 4 gallons of paint in their shop. Somehow, they explained, they made a honest mistake and used their shop paint. RIGHT! To top it off, they would not put the boat back into the water until I paid the bill. I ended up getting my paint back, bought their crappy paint and paid a little less than the original bill but still to much for the job I got. There is not many options here for boat yards and this year they won't even return my calls for a lift. Sometimes boating sucks!
Worry is the interest humans pay on the debt of miscalculation.

I'll head to my uncle's place in New London CT and catch me some stripers and blues out on The Race.
Nothing quite like getting a huge stripey and spending 20 minutes reeling him in and letting him out till he gets tired.
Fillet him, wrap in aluminum foil with tomatoes, onions, and some olive oil, toss it in the oven.
Most satisfying excercise EVER, man.

I like to hear about your boat. I remember the first time you posted a picture. Don't look that way now. Still buildin' the little ones?
Clouder..
Petit trinidad is one of the highest copper content paints going, you won't regret that move. Just a hint, green and red are higher content than blue or black, in any brand.

Clouder: I have a Twig about 80% finished that I just can't seem to get too.
JustC: Hey, I'll try the roundup thing. Yea, I know about the color difference. That stuff Jimmy gets is loaded. I check Boaters World in Pensacola on prices along with West and BoatUS. I get a lot of my stuff wholesale from Ellett Bros.
William: We have reason to think she was named for A. J.(Tony Jack) Covacevich's aunt or sister. Still doing some research on that. Had thought of renaming but I figures she got by since 1936 with DOLORES CATHERINE who am I to change it.

I got a mental picture of her riding low in the water, being guided up to a dock a wee past late evening with an cargo hold of illegal Rum. The capt'n and his mate think of why they take such risks, Delores and Catherine.....

The boot stripe goes on the top of the water line. It's major function is ornamental. Gives you a visual separation.
DOLORES is rated for a 3 ton payload giving her a 14 ton gross weight. Actually, she could carry more than that in payload now as the weight of her rigging is gone and the weight added by the forward house was less than the rigging weight.
How is business going? I have a friend that has developed a shooting accessory he wants to market. Might call you sometime and put him on the line with you. He told me Tues that he had talked to Blackie Collins and Blackie wanted to market it for him and just pay Ken a royalty. I reminded Ken that Blackie had shafted him once before on a 'deal'.
Got a thing or two goin' on with the family. I'll give you a call in a day or so and catch up on things. Evening to ya, Pel
