A friend of mine recently bought a new F250 that was about as bare bones as he could find. It is white with the 6.2 gas engine, but it came with the auto transmission. From what I've seen, I don't think you can get a manual transmission in the smaller Ford trucks anymore.

I was told you can't get an manual transmission in anything smaller than an F550 anymore.

Automatic transmission technology has surpassed manuals, so from a mass production stand point it makes little sense for the big three to offer anything other than an automatic, especially in a 1/2 ton, 3.4 ton or 1 ton work truck.

OTR trucks are going automatic transmissions too. Even dump trucks are coming with them! Autos are far superior to gear boxes and manual clutches.

Yes, they do make Fleet pickups. But I'm sure you'll have to order one.

And it will probably come with A/C, radio and automatic

I?ll let you drive this goddanged pile of garbage autoshift truck and if you tell me they are better than sticks then I?m sending you to drug rehab!!!

You give up too much control of these things with the autoshift, they suck suck suck suck!! I would rather have sexual relations with Pelosi and Hillary at the same time before ever buying another one of these stuper motherhumping autoshift trucks!!! Pile of friggin garbage and don?t take this personal but being you don?t drive one of these you have no clue what taking the manual trans out of one of these things does!!! And if you got drivers telling you they are good then they aint real truckers and got no business driving one!!! Worst frikkin thing they could have ever done was start puttin autos in these damned things!!

I had one also, that was also a 52 3 window not quite pristine, that I paid $25 for in 1973

A friend of mine has 49 GMC pickup 3 window that has been completely frame off restored to original. I'm thinking about buying it

The reason why an automatic is better than a standard in a pickup is because people anymore just don't know how to drive a standard. If a person like you or I had a standard, we can take it further than anybody including ourselves in an automatic

Nissan and Toyota are just about the only ones still selling a Manual Transmission pickup.

    Nissan offers the cheapest one.

That don't make the auto better, just easier to sell to people who should not be behind the wheel.

I'd say you are cozying up to Hillary with thinking like that [B)]

Automatic transmissions take a chit on a regular basis. In 40 years of driving, I have personally had trouble with two(2) manual gear boxes. One was a log truck transmission that I twisted the main shaft in. The other was a 5 speed Mitsubishi transmission in a little pickup I had. The log truck I drove for 2 days until I could get it tore down. The Mits I drove for 3 YEARS while the pocket bearing went bad. Try any of that with a slush box.

Did I mention that I HATE automatic transmissions?

Ford F series. The XL is the basic and you can add to that.

I have a 2007 F250 XL regular cab that does everything that I need it too.

You mean you want a work truck...

I have a 2006 Tacoma, 2.7L 4 cylinder, with a manual transmission and four wheel drive. It came with a basic radio/cd player.

Crank windows, manual door locks, manual seat, none of that fancy stuff.

It has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.

All the used "fleet pickups" I see on lots are automatic. Guess it's too hard to find an employee who can drive a manual.
I'd hate to give up my 98 K3500 w/5 speed manual but already know it's too hard to find a replacement to expect anything but an automatic.

Back in 97 I ordered a new Chevy pick up. Standard cab 1/2 ton 4WD with a 5 speed manual. I ordered it with a tow package. I was told that a tow package was not available with a a manual trans, because "most people can't drive a stick shift" I bought an aftermarket hitch and installed it myself.
In 2006 GM quit offering manual transmissions in all pickups. I heard Ford quit in 2012 (I don't know about the 550 and bigger).
Ram (Dodge), I was told only offers one behind the cummins diesel.

I took my class B CDL road test in a school bus with an automatic. I cant legally drive a straight without going back and taking the road test in a straight drive bus.
Guess what. There are no more straight drive busses.

milsurp trucks as many know were sold to the military bare bones. we use to call them cheapo deluxe models.
in the civilian market, you could order a bare bones truck called a white truck. radio, ac, automatic.

no, I don't need a truck. got 2 now. that's plenty. just curious.
