be a real thing in the near future.Researcher studies so-called fish antifreeze protein.Pittsburgh-AP -- A Pittsburgh researcher says so-called fish antifreeze which keeps them from freezing to death in frigid water stunts the growth of ice crystals, rather than preventing water from freezing.Duquesne (doo-KAYN') University biochemist Jeffry Madura says the proteins twist the shape of ice crystals, which prevents them from growing.Potential uses for the proteins run the gamut -- replacing snow plows and salt trucks with protein-spraying trucks, preventing freezer burn and extending how long transplant organs can be kept on ice.But any commercial use for the proteins will have to wait for researchers to understand how they work.
