Washington-AP -- Horses to the slaughter.Records show wild horses put up for adoption by the Bureau of Land Management continue to be slaughtered. In some cases, the horses are slaughtered within weeks of the owner gaining title of the animal.Adopters must sign a statement promising they won't sell the horse to slaughter. But critics question how aggressively the B-L-M is investigating people who adopt the wild horses. The horses are sold by the B-L-M for 125 dollars and up.A lawyer for The Fund for Animals says he's heard of slaughterhouses paying as much as one-thousand dollars.Increased demand for horse meat in Japan and Europe has driven up prices in recent months.
